I m in big trouble! I think I failed my drug screen

Published

Here's the scoop. I was told by another nurse that the facility I work in (I work agency) didn't do pre employent Urinalysis drug screens. Now, I m an occasional pot smoker(never before work. usually about 3x a month), I don't drink, I don't do any hard core drugs. SO anyway, to my surprise, when I went to the physical on Monday... they drew labs, xrays and did a Urinalysis. In about 2 hours I have to go in and get the update of the physical and test results... Guess what? I know they're gonna find thc in my urine. Now, I m not only looking at definitely not getting this job but I might even be turned in to the state boards. I m screwed. I didn't sleep at all last night. My wife's panicked and so am I. There's nothing I can do now. I don't consider myself an addict in any way shape of form. some people drink a couple beers, some do a couple puffs once in a while. Had I been smarter about it, i would have abstained from it.... but being gullible and stupid.. I didn't. God help me!I smoked the day before the test. lesson learned.

THis is Alex68 and NO this was NOT an April fool's joke... just got back from the facility. The nurse I spoke to was right... the UA didn't check for drugs. I'd say I dodged a bullet on that one! I start next week in a high paying RN job!! I still firmly believe in the legalization of pot... but I think until it's legal, I m gonna abstain from it.... it's a shame but no amount of bud I ve smoked can offset the stress I ve gone through these last few days. CHEERS! YAHOO!!:smokin:

Wow... I was feeling a little bit sorry for you at first, but I kinda wish you would have gotten busted now. That's pretty arrogant of you to post that last one Alex68. Enjoy your high-paying RN job. But now every day you go to work you just have to know that you kinda don't deserve that job. The rest of us who obey the rules and play fair don't have to worry about random drug screens, or lies catching up to us. Good luck buddy.

I didn't mean to come off as arrogant Jeeper... I m a nurse so a " High paying job" means in mid20's an hour in this part of the country. I wasn't gloating or bragging, I was just pretty excited that all's well that ends well. That's pretty bad that you wished I would have gotten busted. Then again, I didn't want people feeling sorry for me in the first place... I was sharing so that others wouldn't make the same dumbass mistake I made. so, whatever buddy.

and one last thing... I kinda do deserve the job. Arrogance? no. I m a good nurse. Been told that by the people I respect the most... .the patients.

Well, April Fools Day or not - Alex, I hope you will take something from this and maybe keep it in mind for future reference. Maybe on a list of "Ignorant things I have done and don't ever want to do again" or something like that. Not trying to sound ugly, please don't think that, but I do hope you will take this experience with you and just not make that mistake again.

You're screwed.

I guess you didn't read the update LOL

Alex, I am glad you still got the job and it appears from your post you have learned from it. Wonder what they did a UA for if not to check for drugs??

Well Alex, you just have to know that I've played by all the rules, busted my butt in every way possible in life and end up in the same place as the people taking short-cuts. Yes, you should be held accountable for your choices. And I want to have the consequences of my decisions. But that's not always the case. And I don't think pot is bad... it's just a rule and we all have to jump through the same hoops. If someone cheats on a board exam or something they should be brought to justice. I'm sure that person probably knows the same stuff the next guy does, but it's just a rule... you can't cheat, because the board exams are supposed to stand for something-- if you pass, then you're competent and we can trust you. And we have to defend that measure of competence so we can trust in what it means. We're not supposed to smoke weed because we are ethical professionals. RNs are rated #1 in ethics on the Gallup poll every single year counting, except in 2001 when firefighters put us in the #2 spot (due to 9/11)-- we deal with narcs multiple times per shift. We deal with people at their most vulnerable moments in life, physically, emotionally, financially. If you break the rules and do illicit drugs then you are damaging the trust of those wearing the title RN. Seriously, if it were legal I'd smoke a joint right now (I don't work this week:yeah:). Like I said above, if performance-enhancing drugs were legal I'd be on those. But they're not (and those are really bad for you too...) so I stay clean. I do run stop signs in big parking lots though because that's a rule that doesn't make sense to me... if it's midnight and I'm the only person in sight, then I don't even slow down.

I'm not trying to be mean to you and I'm really not that jaded. I just struggle with justice sometimes. Of course as soon as I start putting myself on the righteous pedestal, I'm going to be brought down on several different counts. Ok, I'm finished... how do you like my circular logic?

That's still vindictive to say he should have been busted. I guess some people have never, ever made one mistake in their whole entire life. I don't smoke either, not just because of my job now or future as an RN, and no, I wouldn't have a joint right now if I were off this week with nothing to do. However, I am still glad, Alex, that you got your job, and I am sure you will learn your lesson. I have seen people under the influence of alchohol act way worse than others who I have seen under the influence of pot. Also, thanks for posting. Come on, everyone...do not use illegal substances if you are in healthcare. I used to work for 911 emergency, and I think they should have done drug testing even though they didn't. Who wants to call 911 and talk to someone who is under the influence of anything? Geez...

Sounds like it with a little nose thumbing at the establishment thrown in for good measure.

you may dodged the bullet this time...... i think it's a great idea to abstain is a great idea since your dealing with people's lives and don''t want to jepordize the patient in any way shape or form. maybe if you have having anxiety you should see a doctor rather than doing the bud ( never heard it called that before)

p.s i still think this is a april fools day joke !!
