I just wanted to say

That I like my job! I want to say this for all the nursing students who may be reading this forum and feel discouraged. And that's not to be disrespectful to those who are struggling and post looking for support, that's perfectly understandable! I just want to say that all new nurses aren't miserable.

Granted, it's only been about 6 weeks (maybe 7?), but it's started off much better than I expected. My preceptors are great and so supportive, my director offers me every opportunity to express how my learning needs can be better met. I am working in newborn nursery and postpartum and I think it's the coolest job to work with those new tiny babies.

It's not perfect and today I screwed up, and it's a HORRIBLE feeling. But I know I'm a new grad, and I'm on orientation and that's the time to screw up. Nobody wants to but we're all human.

So I just want to say that there is hope to all those nursing students. Some people really do graduate and like what they do. And we get PAID, which is such a relief after being a struggling student for all those years.

To those who are struggling and don't like their jobs - hang in there - hopefully there is something better out there for you. Once you get experience, I'm sure there will be many options available to you. Nursing is a diverse field and I really believe there is something for everyone!

Thanks so much for the positive post, Kelly. :yeah: As a nursing student, it is scary to read over and over again about how hard it is going to be. I don't doubt it for a minute, but it is really great to hear from a new nurse whose experience is somewhat happier. Good luck with the rest of your orientation. Although I'm ready to have my mind changed once I've done my clinicals, so far I think NICU/PICU is where I would like to end up. Great to hear you're enjoying it as a new nurse.

i like my job, too. most of the time. except for when i hate it. but after three decades of nursing, i can't think of anything i'd rather do -- other than retire, of course!

Yup, One of my jobs is where I started as a LPN right out of school. I still love it...most times. :D Good luck to everyone struggling and don't give up trying to find your niche.
