I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

I so sorry to hear that you felt all the LPN NCLEX study guides where a waste of time and money. As I've mentioned on previous threads they changed the tests as of April 1st and for the next few months we will be the guine pigs. My biggest fears was that all the study guids will be useless because they are based on past test. However with all your studying I am sure you passed. Ive heard that if the computer shuts of at 85 even if you got the 85th question wrong it means you passed. If you were failing it would have gone up to 200+. Anyway, I tried to look up study questions on NCSBN.ORG but I couldn't find any, could you please direct me to where the questions are. Thanks.

It's been 5 weeks and still no results!!! I'm so frustrated. I took the exam with a classmate of mine and she received her results on Tuesday. Well, it's Saturday now, still no results...

I had 85 and most were priority, planning, and pt teaching. I only had one calc and I can't say it was even hard.

WOW i wish my exam turns out 2 be like that!!

Omg!!! I passed!!! I'm so happy!!! Thank you everyone for your kind words and for encouraging me. Thanks!!

Congrats eileeners LVN!!!!!!!!! You must be so relieved and happy.

Still waiting for my results........hopefully soon.:bugeyes::up::up::up:

I took the NCLEX-PN yesterday, 4/26.

I must have looked terrible, the receptionist at the testing center must have seen the look on my face. He kind of counseled me to calm me down. Said he use to be an 8th grade counselor. I seriously feel that helped me relax. He did that for about 10-15 mins.

Afterwards was a different story. I walked out of the testing center in a daze. Dont know whether to cry or scream. I had about 6-8 med, alot of priority questions, a good bit of select all that apply questions and a couple cultural questions. In which I know I got those cultural questions wrong. I was looking for a lot more questions related to med-surg. I had a few, but I started getting bummed out when I saw those SATA and priority questions coming back to back. I was ready to get up and leave because I figured if I continued getting those, I must be answering them wrong. I even got the same question asked twice, with only one of the selections different. I dont know what to think. Ive heard different people say different things about the kinds of questions you get. But I dont know. All I can do now is pray for the best. I dont feel terrible about the exam, but I dont feel great either. Good luck to everyone taking it next week.

Hello Trimedu! I was also obsessing about what type of questions I got. And my obsession only worsened after reading the experiences of the others here on the forum. I for one only got 3 SATA, 2 math, 4 meds and the majority of them are geriatrics. Every test is different, so don't worry. I know it's easier said but there's nothing really you can do now but wait, hope for the best, and while you're at it you might as well relax right? :wink2: I'm sure you did fine. Good luck to you! Keep us posted.

hey everyone! i jus wanted to thank all of u for all your comforting words. i jus took the nclex pn test on 4/26.... and i can't stop obsessing about my results. i'm trying to relax & keep it out of my mind, but i jus can't!!! somehow it always manages to come back into my mind. after i took the test i was in such a daze. the comp stopped at 85, but it's not really like that means anything these days. the questions didn't seem so hard - really straight fwd, but choosing the answers were hard!!! so i really had to put my thinking cap on! lol. i practiced more than 1,000 questions & i tried to answer the questions in the NCLEX to the best of my ability, but i'm also anxious cuz I SUCK AT MATH & i got a few. (also got a few SATA, but mostly questions like " wat would the nurse do?") AUGH!! i guess all i can do is wait, & hope for the best.

for all those who haven't taken it yet, i highly suggest being familiar w/ labs, prioritizing, math, standard precs/ fundamentals, & delegating. and most importantly.... prac questions! lol. i knoe this is emphasized from everyone's advice, but after taking the test yesterday, i def need to emphasize this as well. good luck to everyone!!!

You probably did great...When I took my PN bourds I thought they were a joke because it was so simple and I didn't have to guess on anything...

But when I was done I still cried all night and thought that I failed because I was too confident. :nurse: And now I'm a nurse:)
