I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

Congratulations!!!!! So excited for all of you!

Im new to this site, I intitally hopped on here from a google search trying to find study tips for NCLEX. I just took mine this morning...shut off at 85, and it only took me 45 minutes....now, my mock boards also shut off at 85 and took me about 45 minutes (im a fast reader) but it still freaks me out! Everyone in our class that has tested so far has passed (even the morons) so i should feel comforted, but I am sooooo nervous! I hear 85 is a really good thing typically..because if you're doing poorly the exam will continue to give you opportunities to redeem yourself so to speak..(or at least thats what the mock nclex guy said) I just dont know what to think, my life rides on this test...i will be so embarassed and discouraged if I dont make it, and already too many things have gone wrong in my life. Does anyone know how to deal with this horrible stress? Does 85 really mean you're either a moron, or you did ok?:((

Hey for everyone that lives in Ca and just got their results, how long did it take you guys and when did you test? I tested on the 12th but I heard the boards are behind. Congrats to everyone.

I took the NCLEX on Feb 15th and I also stopped at 85 questions but it took me about 2 hours (I'm a very slow test taker...I read the question and answers over and over again...). People are different, like you, you're a fast test taker so of course you'll finish fast and that's fine. Everyone who comes out taking the NCLEX experiences the same thing...nervous, anxious, scared, etc. I have heard that the number of questions you get does not determine a pass or fail but then I have also heard a lot of people pass with 85 questions but then again...some people have passed with 205 questions so it really is hard to tell until you get your official results in the mail. Try to keep yourself very busy and if you need to come here and talk it out or vent it out...that's what we're here for :wink2:. Are you in California? It has been almost about a week since I've taken it and I swear I've turned bi-polar just thinking about the NCLEX...One day I have high hopes that I"ve passed and the next I feel like I failed...and how embarrassing and discouraging it would be...It goes up and down but in the mean time, we're here for you!!!! :nurse:
