I am a new grad. Can't find a job. I have applied to about 130 jobs in the last few months. There is nothing wrong with me I have a 3.8, tons of clinical experience, have ACLS, hard working...yada yada yada. I am starting to get the hint that no one wants me because I have a ADN and not a BSN. I was told that yesterday by a major hospital. Just happens to be the one I will do anything to work at.:crying2:

I am getting very depressed. I don't even want to bother anymore. I can't believe that I worked so hard and it was for nothing because no hospital wants an ADN. (I would go to a LTC, but hospitals dont count that as experience.) Is my degree really worthless? All the turn downs are making me feel worthless. I can't even get an interview. What am going to do? If I do get more then 6 months experience working as a RN I can't apply to new grad programs and if I dont work for more then 6-12 months they are telling me I will have to take a refresher course ($3,000).

I am about to give up because I feel so worthless and realizing I may have to go back to school and once again put off my dreams so I can get a piece of paper that demands some respect. :crying2:

hey.. weve talked in another forum... dont give up. If it makes you feel any better even people with BSNs are having a hard time right now (like me!). Have you tried nursing homes or anything??

Thanks. I have tried everything. I have even started to apply for MA and CNA positions. I figure it is not what I want to do, but it gets my foot in the door.

you know thats smart.. when I graduate and I still probably wont have a job, I am probably going to try and go back to my old job as a CNA. But honestly, your degree is not worthless, really, there are so many just like you who eventually get jobs.. is it a possibility to go back for your BSN right now? or sometime soon? I know money is always an issue, but it may be something worth looking into? keep your chin up!

Hello,

I feel you. I am a recent grad may 09 with a BSN and trust me, IT IS HARD!!!!!! i don't know how much differently you are being treated with an associates than bachelors, but trust me, all my classmates are having a really hard time. the only people who got jobs are those who already had connections (big key word here). I also applied to numerous jobs, no calls back. Frankly, i've heard of various contradicting things, some managers wouldn't mind hiring someone with your degree because you guys get more clinical time. and i think 3.8 gpa is up there!

For me, i've had a minor luck.. Have you tried a staffing agency. Believe it or not, I bugged an agency and they offered to take me in or an interview and try to set me up with a school nurse position ( to do various tests at the school, but not as a full time, i know you need a masters for that). but nevertheless, its experience. They said they can even possibly put me into a facility to do long term care.

So if anything, theres luck... some of my classmates gave me advice on stalking the floor managers down (haha), or like really get your face in the door, other than paper.

So there ya go, good luck! nurses are wonderful =) dont give up

Hang in there and don't give up!! It is tough. I graduated in May 09 and have yet to find a job in a hospital. But I was able to take a position in pediatric home health. I am still applying to GN programs and hoping to get into a 2/10 pediatric rotation. I have also started the process to get my BSN. As much as I don't want to do school again right now I am not sure I have time to waste.

Don't give up!! Your degree was worth it and you are worth the time. hugs

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Flight.

just as everyone else said.. don't give up!!!

where do you live?.. it is SO easy to find an RN job in this part of the country..

my ER is staffed by like half agency nurses..

i have not heard of it being hard to find a nursing job.. guess im out of the loop.

i wish you the best of luck!!

Awww...you are making me sad for you. Please don't use words like worthless. Its not true!

Its hard for everybody to find a job. I will have a BSN when I graduate and its not so easy for those of us that graduated before me to find jobs either. I might go back to school too if I don't find something at the RN level. I try to look at it as a good thing: maybe its pushing past a point I would have pushed past if I found a job straight away as an RN. You know what I mean?

Hang in there...You are not alone! :heartbeat:heartbeat

Wow! You are really out of the loop. 2008 and 2009 have been reported as the worst years ever in the history of nursing for new graduates in the US. I also happen to be in the worst state which is CA. The opportunities for someone with no experience are few. Angencies will not hire new grads (if they do then they are a shifty company to work for).

There are night shift openings at my facility on med/surg/tele if you are willing to relocate to Kern County. PM me.

It's nothing about you, just certain areas of the country are dealing with the negative effects of the economy. Many major hospitals have hiring freezes in effect. And it's not the degree...plently of BSN's are in the same boat with you, they just have a bigger ocean of student loans to paddle through!

As the economy picks up, so will your options. Just hang in there

Yep, graduated May 08, with BSN, moved twice...still looking. Refuse to move my kids again. Staying Vigilant - that's all we can do.
