I just can't find a job.

Published

So I've been at it for 2 months now. I have tried everything from monsters.com, careerbuilder.com, making cold calls, making cold visits (home health agencies, nursing homes, hospital HRs, LTC). I've tried referrals through friends that have been nurses for a few years now, I've tried reaching out to people on facebook (you never know if they know a friend of a friend sort of thing). I'm at my wits end here!! Only a couple of months until I have to start making loan payments. I'm in Miami, FL. I've looked throughout the whole state of Florida!! Some jobs say NO NEW GRADUATES AT THIS TIME. Many don't even bother sending as much as a confirmation email that they received your application. Hospitals that I've heard have residency programs don't state when or how. And don't get me started on Taleo and Indeed.com!!!!! OH and these open houses/job fairs......RIGHT!

5 positions for over 100 applicants! Some of which show up having 10 years experience!! GRRR needed to vent

have you tried the fort pierce or port st lucie area? I know that they always have a TON of RN listings! hang in there, good luck :loveya:

You may want to Google critical access hospitals in Florida. Florida Hospital seems to have year-round new grad programs. I am from Florida. I miss it! We are having a tough time in California too.

Thanks, I'm going to try your suggestions :)

I am sorry to say, it sucks out here. Try being an old stale new grad who has been trying way longer. It is definitely a crazy ride. Volunteer volunteer volunteer.

I hope this doesn't come as a surprise to you as it's been going on for years.

I graduated three years ago and found the only job I could get was at a critical-access hospital very far from home - and far from just about anything else.

You've been at it for two months which is not much by comparison to how long it takes many people.

Some of my classmates found a program through the local community college in which they registered as students and then worked M/S on the NOC shift at the local hospital as "interns," though they were working under their own licenses. At least one got a job out of the deal.

Just keep doing all those things that you're doing, keep studying and building your knowledge base, and look for a job doing anything you can to support yourself until you can (hopefully) find a nursing job.

I hear you. I am on the same boat with you. The situation is just the same here in NJ. I applied here and there and still haven't landed a job. Have you tried applying as a flu shots nurse? I just had my interview last month. I'm not sure if I am hired but they have called my character references already. Im still keeping my figures crossed.

Curious - are you volunteering? I am planning to go this route myself. Has it helped you make any connections (that lead to job opps)?

Isn't it ridiculous?! Too many applicants, not enough new grad positions. I totally hear you!

Wait until you hit the one-year mark like so many other new grads. By then, we aren't eligible for many new grad positions any longer since they specifically state that by the start of the program, you have to be out of school for one year or less; regardless of the fact that you don't have any RN experience. It's another criteria in order to weed out applicants. :banghead:

Good luck in your job hunt! It is so incredibly brutal to be a new grad right now.

Don't feel alone. I have 28 years experience in ER and critical care and I've been looking for a job for months. No one wants to hire an "old nurse" either, who might start out higher on the pay scale. I've tried all the same things you have. Did the flu clinic thing, but the shifts were all gone within an hour of the schedule coming out. Will try private duty, but that's PRN. And have a position with an Infusion Co. which might land me one infusion every couple of months. Very scary.

Have you tried Nursing Jobs I found my last job on that site. Every job on the site is a nursing job so there are tons to choose from.
