  1. Chrystal, I had to have a friend set this up on Survey Monkey for me, because I kept messing it up. Let me ask them how to do that and get back to you !
  2. If anyone reading this could take a few moments to complete the survey, I would really appreciate it. Especially interested in surveying nurses who belong to unions and nurses who work in environments where safe staffing ratios are mandated. Thank you !
  3. I see the discussions on here about union/nonunion, and it is a timely topic. Which is why I'm doing my master's thesis project on job satisfaction of union versus nonunion nurses. My hypothesis is that with lower mandated ratios and union representation, union nurses will have a higher job satisfaction. I'm still collecting responses, and my research proposal is in the research section, if anyone would like to see it. I've been all over the country, working in ERs from California to RI and back to Tennessee. The hospitals I've worked at which are unionized, just in my experience, have nurses who stay longer and seem more satisfied, in general. This is, of course, just a hypothesis, but studies show that the lower ratios in California have improved nurse retention and job satisfaction. I called CNA/NNU and was advised to talk to the nurses on this thread to see what their general opinion is. If any of you would like to lend your voice to my research, the link is [COLOR=#003366]https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DQLLJR7 and the permissions are in the Nursing Research Forum here. Since California is the only state where ratios are "mandated", and most nurses have union representation, the voices of CA RNs is very important to me. Will let you all know the end result when my data analysis is done. I will probably leave the survey up for another week or so. Kay
  4. This survey has been approved by the board of Allnurses.com for inclusion in this forum. It is part of a Capstone project for MSN in Education from Western Governor's University. Retention of nurses at the bedside is a critical issue facing the healthcare industry, with job dissatisfaction being the primary cause cited by nurses who choose to leave direct patient care positions. This study will explore the relationship of nurse-patient ratios and unionization with nurses' job satisfaction. The Spector Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) is being used in this survey with permission of Dr. Spector. This is a validated scale which has been used for decades to measure job satisfaction. There are a few demographic questions and the scale is measured by Likert-rated responses. Estimation of completion time is around 10 minutes or less. Thank you in advance for your participation in this. Results will be shared here at Allnurses when the study is complete. The informed consent will appear prior to taking the survey. Please contact me for any questions. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DQLLJR7 Kay Gardner, RN, BSN, CEN
  5. Don't feel alone. I have 28 years experience in ER and critical care and I've been looking for a job for months. No one wants to hire an "old nurse" either, who might start out higher on the pay scale. I've tried all the same things you have. Did the flu clinic thing, but the shifts were all gone within an hour of the schedule coming out. Will try private duty, but that's PRN. And have a position with an Infusion Co. which might land me one infusion every couple of months. Very scary.
