- Is there a sizable demand for it?
Yes, and growing, esp c Obama wanting to nation to go to EMR's
- Who or what type institution is doing the hiring and based on what trends?
Everyone. Not so much doctor's offices. Based on moving from paper charts to at least the 20th century, let alone 21st.
- What type of prereqs are there and what type of students enroll (other than geeks)?
Being a nurse. An RN for school. I have no idea who all else enrolls.
- What was your decision criteria that made your mind up?
I'm already the informatics nurse where I work and want to remain one and if I leave become one elsewhere. Also, it was the quickest path to a degree for me.
-How many semester hours is this program?
30-ish.
My tuition reimbursement covers 4 credits a year.

No, no BSN. I just got the RN. I go straight to MSN.
You do have tpo pay the enrollment fee.
Broadway, look into Empire State. They have a great distance program and the tuition is lower. They also have offices on Varick Street. Depending on how many credits you already have it is or is not a good deal because you have to do 60 credits within the program. If you plan to remain clinical it's definitely a better way to go than EC. Also check out Suny Stony Brook, Binghamton, Delhi, Plattsburgh. Stony Brook and Binghamton are VERY highly regarded. All distance.
