I hate A&P!!!!!!

Published

I'm at the end of my rope with A&P. I have been trying so hard to remain optimistic and that I can learn this stuff. There is so much information, it is driving me crazy. I have a test on Tuesday on the spinal cord, nervous tissue and the brain. The instructor gave us a sheet with all the cranial nerves, their location and function. We have to know all of these as well as everything else under the sun. I can understand having to know what parts of the brain do, but we have to know the structures down to each little detail. Is it just me or does every class need to know every little detail?

I am going crazy and ready to drop out. It's bad enough that I did so poorly on the last three tests and I had hoped it would get easier, but it is getting worse. This class will help me decide whether I want to go on with nursing. My nursing classes are fine compared to this.

I also feel like all I ever do is study and do not spend quality time with the kids and if I was doing good on the tests, maybe it would feel worth the sacrafice, but I'm beginning to wonder.

Thank you for letting me vent! I just don't know what else to do.

My A&P class is very hard too. I have heard that when the instructor makes it hard, it can be harder than all of the nursing classes. I just keep plugging away, since I know I am going to really need this stuff. Here is what I do to make it easier:

*tape class

*read ahead before lecture

*review my notes within 1 hour of class

*peer tutoring (kind of like a group study type thing)

I also visit a LOT of a&p websites and do all of their activities they offer. Someone posted some great A&P links that really helped me last night. Just do the best you can -- that's all you can do.

It sounds as if you are ahead of our class, are you in A&P II? We are only up to the neuron, our test is Tuesday. I have two children and I am married and I frequently feel so guilty for neglecting them for this class (I spend A LOT of time studying), but then I think how it's all for the greater good and we all need to sacrifice a little because in the long run, it'll all be so worth it.

I am sorry if I am rambling, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and the class really IS that hard. I am sorry you are having a hard time with it, ut I am honestly glad to hear of another person that thinks this class is impossible. :)

ps my instructor has us know everything to the last detail -- everything has to go down to the cell level and back up again, it's so hard to keep it all stright!

Gosh I am sorry you are having such a hard time with this class. I remember that is all I did. I have to say I missed so many firsts in my kids lives. They were all very small when I started. I decided in my own mind I needed to be a nurse and made my choice. I would do it all again as I needed to have a way to support my family. I had to keep trudging forward. Try to hang in there......

Hugs to a future nurse,

Thanks guys. I was so frustrated with my studying this morning that I decided to stop and take the kids to the Octoberfest that our church was holding in the afternoon. I told my husband, I needed to do this for them and for me so we all went. It was cold, but they enjoyed it.

I had to study this evening for my Intro to Nursing mid-term so didn't really look at the A&P, although I have learned the first 5 cranial nerves, only 7 more to go. Still don't know all the functions of the brain though. Maybe I will be able get more absorbed by tomorrow evening.

I am at the point to where I really just want to get a C in this class and for next semester, I do have a different instructor for A&P II so hopefully it will be alittle better.

Thanks again for your support and listening.

Debi--I'm taking A&PI and we just had an exam covering that material two weeks ago. I have an exam tonight on the lobes, spinal nerves, dermatomes, nerve plexuses, and reflexes. In lab we're two weeks ahead and covering the special senses, bones, and muscles. It's a ton of work. Hang in there...

Boy do I feeeeeeellllll your PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE AP TOO!!!!!!!

this class is killing me .. is taking everything I got to get through this class with a "C".. at this point that is all I am shooting for! to heck with my 4.0 average... I don't care! I just want to get through this... can't even bear to think of next semester APII

I get so worried that I am not going to be able to cut it in nursing school if I can't get pass this class!

So hang in there..... Good Luck!

Man oh man, you guys are freakin me out about A&P!!

I have it next semester along with Chem 101! I am starting to wonder if I am going to be able to do the two of them together. They are the only classes standing in my way of being accepted into the nursing program at my school. If I have any hope of being in next Fall, I have to get through them and I was hoping to get a good grade. Now I am starting to wonder! YIKES!

I completely sympathize with you. A&P was a lot of work. I don't really know what to tell you, except DON'T give up! I'll let you know what I did to get through it, maybe it will help, maybe not...just HANG IN THERE! YOU CAN DO IT!

I found the class to be a lot of memorization...notecards out the wazoo did the trick for me when studying. I should have bought stock in 3x5 cards.

I recorded every lecture in addition to taking notes in class, and after class I would go over the lecture bit by bit and rewrite my notes. Every morning I would go over those notes again to make sure I understood the material, and what I didn't quite get I made it a point to ask the instructor.

I also found a kindred spirit in class and we used to get together before the tests and study. I found it easier to remember things when I had to say them to another person.

Good luck to you, and stick with it. It's daunting but it can be done. :) (insert hugging smiley here :) )

I feel your pain too.

A&P is a lot and I mean a lot to memorize but you will get through.

I thought it was the toughest course I would ever have and then

came Physics. I had to take three Physics classes for diagnostic

imaging and let me tell you at least with body parts and their

functions you can find models of them to learn and study off of.

Try making sense of sound waves when ya can't even see the

dogone things.

Learn it anyway you can. Take the test, keep your notes and let

it go. The parts of A&P that you will actually use will stick with you

the rest....well you will look it up when you need it.

Hang in there, cause most of us are hangin with ya too!

Now I feel weird... but I liked A&P

It may seem like a lot of work but stick with it. If you don't get all A's so what... your doing your best. Just because you can't remember all of the cranial nerves doesn't mean that you won't make a great nurse.

Thanks for your support and advise. I took another A&P exam last night, not sure how I did though. When I began the test, I was feeling pretty good about it with the multiple choice and even the definitions and then came the short answer questions, so I really don't know how I did. Hopefully I at least got a C, otherwise I may have to drop this class and take it over in January.
