I hate A&P!!!!!!

Nursing Students General Students

I'm at the end of my rope with A&P. I have been trying so hard to remain optimistic and that I can learn this stuff. There is so much information, it is driving me crazy. I have a test on Tuesday on the spinal cord, nervous tissue and the brain. The instructor gave us a sheet with all the cranial nerves, their location and function. We have to know all of these as well as everything else under the sun. I can understand having to know what parts of the brain do, but we have to know the structures down to each little detail. Is it just me or does every class need to know every little detail?

I am going crazy and ready to drop out. It's bad enough that I did so poorly on the last three tests and I had hoped it would get easier, but it is getting worse. This class will help me decide whether I want to go on with nursing. My nursing classes are fine compared to this.

I also feel like all I ever do is study and do not spend quality time with the kids and if I was doing good on the tests, maybe it would feel worth the sacrafice, but I'm beginning to wonder.

Thank you for letting me vent! I just don't know what else to do.

I am so glad ot know that it's not just me! I am so overwhelmed by A&P1!!! Our instructor goes through the book willy-nilly(not sure if that's really a word, but you get the idea.) I am scraping by with a C mostly due to the homework worksheets. I have picked a different instructor for A&P2 next semester-he goes by the book and the study guide.

For the person that is going to take Chemistry 101-don't worry. I took Chemistry 113 this last summer so it was accelerated and after the third week or so I finally figured it out that it's mainly math......and formulas. I really enjoyed that course.

I am so relieved to find out that not aceing A&P doesn't mean I won't get into Nursing or be okay. I come from more of a social worker background and trying to learn to think in more scientific terms is difficult.

Thanks for listening!!!

Hi everyone in A&P h*ll---

I know it is tough but you guys will make it. On the bright side of things you will actually use the stuff that you are learning in Patho/Pharm and Med/Surg. I know at times it can seem hopeless but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, just make sure that you look up once in a while to see it. Good luck everyone:) :)

I was so horribly scared to take A&P, but I lucked up. I got an amazing teacher. If we write down every thing he says in lecture and know it backwards and forwards....were set. I have a B so far Yippeeeeee. I went to the doctor today and there was the everfamous poster of the bones in the room.....lol...I found myself lableing them...hehe Cracked myself up. My best advice to any one ....before you register ask around about the teachers. This is the best way to find out who you want. Its all about the teacher I think....:D

I think A&P I was a lot harder than A&P II. I only studied a fraction of the time. I had to get a letter of recomendation from the teacher (got it today) and found out I had the highest average in class and there were only 2 other A's.

I really learned how to study in A&P I. It has helped me with everything else because nothing has compared to it (yet).

Goodluck!! You will be so proud of yourself when you get out.

I have it next semester along with Chem 101! I am starting to wonder if I am going to be able to do the two of them together.

It can be done. You will have alot of studying to do, but it can be done. I have Chem 101 and Pathophysiology together this semester. (I had hard teachers in AP1 and 2, but Patho makes both look like a cake walk) However, I study for both and have a solid A in Chem and a B in Patho. It can be done, it just will require some sacrifice of free time.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

yes!!!!!!

for me, this has been true all throughout school! if the prof wants you to be successful then s/he will be willing to help...if the prof is just into proving how superior they are to you and how you could never comprhend the complex material they are presenting ;) then you better run - 'cause they aren't gonna be very helpful...

i have found the latter to be true especially w/ chem/bio types...i am probably making an overgeneralization there, tho...

good luck!

http://www.mhhe.com. Once your at the site go to the upper right hand corner and select Anatomy and Physiology Text books. A whole bunch of A&P textbook pictures will be seen. Some of their "student center" websites are free, and some are not. One of the best (and also free) is the one which goes to Anatomy and Physiology by Saladin. Click on it and choose the student center option. Then, find the chapers which correlate to the material being covered in YOUR text. They have multiple, activities which should help you succeed.

The KEY to success in A&P is CONSISTENT study every day. IF you can find at least an hour or two EVERY day to study the material (including that for the lab), your grades will improve. Also, I have found that many students who struggle with this class don't read the text. Often because the instructor tells them that he/she emphasizes the notes. Don't believe them! They may in fact "emphasize" their notes, but they will generally leave signficant "gaps" between what is presented in class, and what is asked on exams.

Also, study that is done immediately after class is often more effective than study done much later. Finally, DO CRAM for the exam! I've always been a 4.0 student because of my study habits, but have always CRAMMED before most major examinations to supplement my efforts. In A&P the most helpful thing for the labratory part of the class were other students in the Anatomy study room. I would get there two to three hours before lab. exams, and people who knew the material "cold" were generally very helpful in reviewing material with the rest of us (lab was much tougher than lecture for me, just the way my mind works I guess). Also, there is a product called the Anatomy Coloring Book which might prove helpful to you. If you buy the book make copies of the pages BEFORE you color them in. In this way you can get repetitive practice on difficult concepts.

Hang in there. Even if you don't happen to pass THIS time what you learn will make it easier NEXT time (many students who see they are not going to get their "C" simply stop trying. When they retake the class they find that it is almost as difficult as the first time around). Learning and knowledge is like money, the more you acquire the easier it becomes to get even more. Good luck and God bless.

I hated A&p too...but I made up silly little rhymes or sayings that helped me remember...goodluck!
