Lucky!
I was just logging in to aks if anyone had gotten it yet! Mine will be delayed a few days since I am far away.
I'm sure I am going to be stuck with a January-March date though. I'm finishing my prereqs this summer at another school but she was skeptical about them transferring- even though I have it in writing that they do. I wouldn't take them if I didn't know for sure!
Well, just think, you can get the scoop from all your allnurses buddies and be ready to cruise in January. I have no doubt your stuff will transfer...I literally have transfer credits from 1987....:chuckle I told you I'm an old broad Hahahahahaha.
Good luck with your classes...I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Congratulations!! :)
What was your HESI? What was your GPA? Any tips and advice? I'm doing my pre-Nursing at MCC now, and my goal is to start Nursing in fall 09.
My tips and advice for pre reqs are this... Find out who the older people in your classes are. Chances are that they have more school experience and their plain old life experience might make them fabulous study partners. They might not know about the latest social trends, and they might talk about their children a bit too much, but I believe that you will get the best study group.
Now, I absolutely could be wrong about this... I haven't been in a study group with anyone younger than 30 years old, so I can't really speak about that subject, but I will tell you this. I was one of the oldest people in both of my classes last semester (if not THE oldest), Bio 1400 and Bio 2710, and I got A's in both. So did many of my study buddies(now friends:p.)
Also, if you're taking A&P, use the tutoring service that the learning center offers. It's not really tutoring as much as it is review. It covers the unit that you are working on and best of all, it's free. The people that work there really know their stuff.
BTW, we don't bite ...old people, I mean...actually I'm ony 43 :chuckle
My scores:95/4.0
Good luck and thanks!
Thanks so much for the advice! I don't mean to steal your thunder here, but I gotta know... hows the HESI? Should I prepare now for Nov/Dec?
I don't mind being with old folks. In fact, I'd prefer it! Most people my age are tools
I don't even know what a "tool" is.. I assume it's not a good thing to be...so I definitely am not one. :chuckle
I hadn't even heard of the HESI when I started my journey to Nursing school. I got the study guide from the library at Macomb and used that. I know that you can purchase them online as well, but you should try the library route first. Look at it and see what's in there.
The study guide does not necessarily cover all of the questions or content, especially in the math part, but really, most of what I encountered that wasn't covered was common knowledge and/or very simple (read: forgotten elementary stuff). I suggest you look at a fourth grade math textbook for a brush up reminder for anything you might need in this dept.
The vocab and reading comp is what it is... you need to know that stuff and that's that. That goes for grammar as well. I thank goodness that I went to parochial school for 8 years with the nuns... they corrected every single mispronunciation I had ever had...and all of the verb tenses etc.
So, for sure, start some studying now...at least get your hands on the study guide to see what you're up against.

So honestly, the HESI is not hard at all. I think an 8th grader should be able to pass it. The only thing that threw me off was that there were some anatomy terms in the general knowledge section that I did not know since I had not taken A&P yet. Also, there is a calculator on the computer which I didn't expect since the instructions said no calculators. I took the test with 2 hours of sleep, literally, and got a 94.
I still didn't get my start date! Ugh! Sometimes the mail to CO is so fast, and sometimes so slow.....
I agree with szyman...there are some anatomy vocabulary words that come up. I had forgotten about those because they are pretty much second nature to me due to my background in the ER and L&D. It sure would help anyone who is unfamiliar to do a little medical terminology research. Most of it is in the study guide already.
Thanks so much for the advice. The past few days I've really been nervous about not doing well enough. I feel a bit more confident now.
Thank you both for the info. Again, sorry to steal your thunder :)
Congrats again!!

Congats HootN,
This is my second semester with MCC, just moved here. Summer session,
I am taking Bio 1400 then A&P in the Fall at the South Campus. Lot's old heads in my class, so I don't feel so bad. I am finding it a bit challenging because it is only 6 weeks. Plus I taking a Hist course and working full-time. I have A&P, and Micro left to complete. I transfered from a University down south. A force relocation with Hubby's job...LOL
When should I look to take the Hesi or actually when am I eligible?
How does that part work.
Sadie,
Welcome to Michigan. I was in your shoes 10 years ago.
If you go to this site of Macomb college:http://www.macomb.edu/NR/rdonlyres/CA73D786-8210-4C9C-842A-185BCDAA7827/0/NursingPacket2009.pdf
It will give you all of the info that you need for this year's requirements for the HESI and deadlines, etc. I do caution you....watch those deadlines because there were many students that missed out on taking the Hesi last year due to not knowing this info.
I would also encourage anyone who hasn't already, to go to the Nursing Seminar that the college has. They have many sessions and there is so much information and you can have lots of your questions answered as well. It was especially helpful to me since I was just returning to school after being away for quite a while.
