Hello all,
Just a vent here. Taking A&P II at the local community college with an instructor who is an M.D. who enjoys teaching as a sport.... beyond his duties in his practice.
About 1/2 of our exams are pathophysiology while we try to learn normal physiology at the same time. The kicker here is the course is 5 1/2 weeks long and accelerated.
I am holding a "B" after 2 of 4 exams and am freaking out. I don't get B's.
What a mistake this was! The class average for exams is around 67%.
Too late now, I have to finish the course. Any advice?
Good luck. I'm glad you met with him to work things out. It's good news that he is curving the grade. Are there any extra credit opportunities?
No extra credit for the minimester course, but normally yes for the 16 week course. It is volunteer in the community based and there just isn't enough time in 6 weeks.
It was an interesting conversation with the professor. He considers A&P II equivalent to second year med school and he teaches it accordingly. I really think I'll have an edge taking pathophysiology when I go for a BSN.
I am seeing a lot of good in this as I progress. Exam 3 is tomorrow; blood, heart and circulatory. Weee!
Not that you have any extra time, but if you can get your hand on a BRS Phys book I would highly recommend it as it is pathophys based. I also really liked Vander's Renal which is a short book just covering renal, but since that was a problem area for me this really helped.
I wish you the best of luck and hope your remaining test goes well!

Well the suggested meeting went well. The professor expects to curve the grade. This is the first time he has taught A&P II in a minimester and he said he will never do it again. Not fair to everyone (including him).
Test 3 of 4 on Thursday, exam 4of 4 the following Thursday. Wish me luck (same exam rotation as his 16 week course). He is set in his ways.
Thanks for all the advice and patience allnurses friends! Much appreciated.
