I Got Me a Juicer!

Published

i am soooo excited.

it hasn't been delivered yet, but i know it's the beginning of something beautiful.

i did some research and bought me an Acme Juicerator.

it's for fruits and vegetables (not all juicers are, however).

so...

i eat plenty of fruit but sorely lack in eating my veggies.

i want to drink away and i know my kids will try it as well.

any great websites, recipes to share?

i know i could search but also know i'd be overwhelmed with info.

would really appreciate any/all input.

thanks so much.

i am psyched!

I love my juicer, but it's been sitting unused for at least a year. Maybe you can inspire me to drag it out. :(

I have this book: Juices that's pretty good. I see they have some used copies very cheap.

My favorite juice is carrot-apple-ginger

I also like tomato-cucumber-basil...........

carrot-apple-beet

mmmmmmmm..mm............... What wonderful concoctions we could think up !

And so very healthy ! Yay for you ! :p Bottoms up !

a health-nut friend of mine, has gained some weight and is having trouble losing the final 10 lbs.

i never buy magazines but when i was in walgreen's, this title caught my eye:

Lose 27 Lbs in 2 Weeks

New JUICE CLEANSE rebalances body pH to burn fat 197% faster

so i bought the magazine.

the research is from Stanford University and Duke University:

and talks about the effects of breathing in heat/humidity and environmental toxins.

and what we don't excrete or sweat out, is converted into acid-by-products.

this affects many organs and our body slows metabolic rate to increase fat storage, since fat cells serve as 'depots' to stash acidic compounds.

the article is great and makes a lot of sense.

it made me want to restore my pH to where it probably should be so any toxins could be eliminated.

if you don't have time to detox, it encourages you to buy alkaline foods such as avocados, lemons, leafy greens.

but for the juice cleanse, it says to buy organic apples, cherries, peaches, imported grapes, berries, bell peppers, celery and spinach...which will cut toxin exposure by as much as 80%.

so i have to find recipes creatively using aforementioned foods.

i wonder if i have to really buy organic???

i'm going to research 'juice cleanse' more thoroughly.

i gave magazine to my friend, but i love idea of cleansing my body.

the magazine is august's issue of First, if anyone's interested.

You might also do a search called "juice fast(ing)" http://altmedicine.about.com/od/detoxcleansing/a/juice_fasting.htm

If the purpose is to detox then definitely go organic, it's worth it.

There really is no hard core evidence that they work or really "cleanse", but the anecdotal evidence is out there and people say it makes them feel better.

I have a book called Three Day Juice Fast, or something like that and was going to try it, but I get to aggitated and can't make it through the first half-day, much less a three day. Maybe I'm not going about it the right way.

the article states that if you can't find organic, you rinse w/apple-cider vinegar and gal of water.

anyways, First magazine has a crappy website, and that article isn't online.

however, i did find some recipes from that particular article.

most of them look gross.

especially those w/the veggies (scrunching face).

and why do i need ginger root?

is it a nutritional additive or just for flavor?

http://www.myfirstforwomen.com/myFFW_Ideas/32_Juice.html.

last year i did do a mastercleanse fast with lemon juice and maple syrup.

and, the lbs melted off, which wasn't a goal-

i just wanted to cleanse.

i stayed on it 3-4 days but didn't want to remain on it because of all its obvious nutritional deficiencies.

at least with juice cleansing, i'm getting all my fruits and veggies.

it does say that you can purchase a 'green powder' (in lieu of veggies) at a healthfood store.

i need to find something that makes sense to me.

will continue to research, but these recipes make sense, even if they may taste like the pits.

The juicer is nice, You can use it a lot. practice will teach you how to blend for effect and also for taste.

I also love my dehydrator. dried fruits and veggies make excellent snacks to keep with you while working and out having fun.

Lemon is alkaline?

Something is way wrong with the research you are citing, earle.

Cool!

I keep eying the Jack Lelane juicer in Costco.

I'm just wondering how messy the clean up is?!

Lame, I know ;)

Its an easy clean up actually, and what you throw away is very good for the compost pile.

I just bought a Jack Lalane juicer, but haven't used it yet. What is the best, most inexpensive tasty drink to make?
