I got my letter today

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I got my letter today and I was denied!! :bluecry1: I've been crying all day. I'm just so upset. I work my butt off and get a 4.0 and I still get denied because I don't have volunteer work! I work full time and all of the hospitals around here require these huge commitments to volunteer. I think it is ridiculous that someone with not as good grades can get accepted first just because they might have volunteered for six months?!? :angryfire The other thing is that 50% of the students get kicked out because they can't keep their grades up!!! This seems to me that they would want to accept the students with the better grades so they would be able to stick the program out!!I'm still waiting on a couple of other schools (letters don't come until May) but now I'm scared because I don't have a backup school to go to anymore. If these schools deny me that's it. Sorry I'm complaining soooooo much - I'm just angry and heartbroken. I tried so hard and wanted this soooo badly.

That's really sad but don't be discouraged. I really believe that things happen for a reason and maybe that school wasn,t for you. Your time will come, have faith.

Dear Val,

You are not alone. :icon_hug: I applied to two universities and have received a denial from one of them. I'm scared too. Go ahead a feel sorry for yourself for a day or two - I sure did. Then, you just move on.

Its hard not to take it personally. I have a 3.875 GPA, several years of CNA experience, and take care of a family. I also am an honors student. I may not have a 4.0; however, think I did pretty well considering everything I have going on in my life. Yet, some of the people chosen had lower GPAs than I did, others had a higher GPA. :angryfire Who knows how the schools really make the decision? I cannot figure it out either.

All I can say is that I refuse to believe that all of those nights I stayed up until 3 or 4 AM studying (after helping my kids study) will be in vain. I know they will pay off one way or another.

Keep the faith!

I am sorry. I know that is a chance I will have to take also. I am going to plan to try to volunteer some this summer, but probably not the first semester. I am taking Pharmacology and that is going to consume my every waking moment.

Dont lose hope. With grades like that, you know you will get into one of the schools.

Good luck.

I might take pharm also. Depends on what UTMB says. Out of all the classes involved in nursing school - pharmacology intimidates me the most.....don't know why. Anyway, the best of luck to you.

Sorry off topic

You never know stpauliegirl. I know of someone with a lower GPA than I have and s/he has been accepted to a few schools already. No letter = hope.

I'm so very sorry you got denied. Take your day and cry your eyes out!!!!

You know I've been there, so I have to say this, HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NURSE? How many times have you applied? How many semesters? Why would you give up so soon? I'm not sure how many times you have applied, but it's a little upsetting to me knowing that I got beat out for the Spring '06 semester by people who would have just quit if they didn't get in the first time. KWIM?

If you really want this, DON'T GIVE UP!!! I wish you the best, and I hope you get an acceptance letter soon. :icon_hug:

I am sorry to hear about your denial letter. I hope you get accepted to at least one school. God has a great plan in store for you. Just stay focus and pray. Just because one school denied you, does not mean you are not going to be a nurse. Good luck to you.

Sorry you got denied but with your GPA you should be able to get into the other schools which you applied at.I just got my acceptance letter last week and that was after my application had been rejected by 3 other schools and i had almost given up when i received the good news.By the way my GPA was 3.63.Keep your hopes high and Good Luck.

I know this probably won't make you feel better but I was scared to commite to a volunteer position for the same reason but found the commitment really isn't the way they make it seem. I call in all the time and leave early. They don't care as long as they have the free labor. They never even notice when I leave early because they are either busy or at lunch. I don't enjoy calling in and leaving early but I have things I have to do and my position isn't as important as things like my son being sick or needing to study for a big micro test. They even told us during orientation that they would rather us call in when we need to rather than quit because we are unhappy. They also said that though they want us to commite to full year they will hold our place if we feel we need a few weeks off.

Thanks soooooo much everybody!!! Everyone has made me feel so much better!! You guys are right - I'm not going to give up - I've worked way too hard to get this far. I'm just going to pray that one of my other schools accept me and if not I'll just start volunteering like crazy for the next year and try again! I'm determined to become a nurse no matter how many times I have to reapply. Thanks for the support!! I don't know what I would do without this forum! :)
