Abington Hospital
I currently work at Abington as a Clinical Associate (CNA). I will be graduating from their nursing program in June and I'm also worried about this "job freeze". We are being told to apply even though there aren't many openings listed. However, I have started applying to other hospitals in the area just in case. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.:icon_roll

Abington Memorial - Dixon School of Nursing???
I just started the RN program at Abington in August. It's a hard program to get into because they get so many applications and only have 60 seats for the day program and 60 for the evening program. However, it is a wonderful school and I love it so far. If you have any specific questions please feel free to PM me.

OMG--is US$32 per hour as starting too good to be true or really true in Los Angeles?
It's probably true since California is one of the states with the highest nursing salaries. I hear that it's because the cost of living up there is pretty high.

Is it true that a BSN will be mandatory soon?
I just started nursing school on Monday and one of my instructors who has been a nurse for 20+ years mentioned that she was hearing that in the next 10 years or so the minimum educational requirement for nursing will be an MSN degree. What in the world?!!!!

I have been asked why don't I become a Physician rather than a Nurse.Itis so ....
I'm not a nurse yet (just started nursing school) but I hate when people ask me that too. I've never even considered being a doctor. I don't want to be on call and I don't want to pay rediculously high medical malpractice rates! I want to have a normal life outside of work and be able to spend quality time with my family and still earn good money. I want to care for patients and build trusting relationships with them. I'm not saying that doctors don't do this too but with nursing it's just a different kind of relationship.

How much are you spending on books this semester?
For Nursing 101 we have 7 required textbooks, 4 required PDA texts, and 5 recommended textbooks. I have spent $664 so far and that doesn't include the PDA texts. We buy those at the school when we start.

allowed to go to other Community College for R.N. program
I took all of my pre-req's at Community College of Philadelphia and then decided to go to another Nursing School. You just have to make sure that the nursing schools you are applying to will accept the courses you have taken. Some schools are very picky and will only accept certain courses from a particular school. For example the nursing school I'm going to would only accept a Biochemistry course from CCP.

Nursing Kit? and Lab Kit?
The kits are customized by the school that's probably why the prices will vary for each school. I'm also very curious to see what I paid so much money for.

Nursing Kit? and Lab Kit?
My school also required that we purchase a Nursing Kit. It cost $207.75 and I have no idea what's included! It will ship directly to the school and I ordered it online at www.courseyenterprises.com

Community college of Philadelphia question
I went to CCP for my pre-req's and got accepted to their program but opted to go to Abington's Program instead. CCP gets hundreds on applications and their acceptances are based on a point system. You get points for GPA, their admission test, and points for never withdrawling from a class. The highest number of points you can get is nine. They take everybody who has a nine first, then eights, and so on. There is no waiting list. If you are not accepted, you have to re-apply the following year. Hope this info helps.

What was your HARDEST class?
Biochemistry! The absolute worst of all times! So boring and I just didn't see the connection between the material and the Nursing Profession. Took my "B" and ran like hell!
