I got my acceptance letter for Cypress College Fall 2010

Published

Did anyone else get one. I'm looking to get to know some people for a study-group. All my friends got in last semester.

I dont know about the TEAS. i took it for goldenwest last week, so I sent them my transcripts. Some are really good about responding to emails to help you. I am hoping that they will let us know whenever someone declines admission, so we dont have to wait until july. I have kids and need time to arrange childcare!!!

Yeah that would be really nice. Same here about the childcare. I have a 3 year old son and in fact one on the way, due early August. So I have lots to prepare myself for. I need to know if I am going to have to find her (and my son) childcare really quickly or if I'm gonna be stuck waiting. Thats why I really wanna know about if we dont get in for the Fall, would we have a good chance for the spring. I mean I am prepared to do whatever it takes to get into the program as soon as possible, but of course considering my circumstances, I wouldn't mind waiting until Spring too. Man I really wish I could find out super soon so I can stop wondering how things will go down and start planning.

The points at Cypress are calculated as follows:

Anatomy Max of 5 points for A (3 for B, 1 for C)

Physio Max of 5 points for A (3 for B, 1 for C)

Micro Max of 5 points for A (3 for B, 1 for C)

Plus you get an additional 10 points for having ALL of your G.E. work done.

For a total of 25 based on academic coursework related to an ADN.

Now Cypress (and other schools) started this new program that they were forced into by the state. At Cypress you can get an additional 5 points based on the following:

Need to work (must prove that you worked while taking the pre-reqs.)

Socially and/or financially Disadvantaged (EOPS, CARE, TRAC students)

First of your generation to attend college.

Veteran Status

Courses that may be advantageous to you in the program (Intro to Nursing, Pharmacology, and Counseling were the ones mentioned to me)

Fluency in a second language.

At least 300 hours of work or volunteering in a health care setting.

So, with the extra, there is a max of 30 points available. I have either 28 or 29 points and received an acceptance letter. I was told by one of the health science counselors that there are people with 25 points who received a letter (some, not all).

I was also told that if you get an alternate letter, then go to everything and be prepared to start; and that a great deal and sometimes all alternates get in.

Hope this info helps.

In that case, I should have like 28 points. That helps a lot. Thanks so much. I am definitely preparing myself for entrance in the fall and I know it will be a lot to prepare for but well worth it too. I just wish I had the chance to be excited but don't want to be disappointed just in case I dont get that spot in the fall.

Then you should have gotten an acceptance letter. You may want to make an appointment with a counselor to make sure all your points were accounted for.

Hi, yes, I'm so happy to report I'll be ready to start this Fall as well. I was accepted last semester, but had to defer to Fall - they allow you to do that once (not sure if they still allow that). Planning to attend orientation on the 19th. Have to admit, I am worried about the TEAS. All these years of hardwork and it comes down to ONE exam. I was told they don't allow retakes. So...yes I'm worried! It's been a long time since high school for me, don't know about you guys?

I took the TEAS 2 weeks ago and it is not that bad. there was a lot of physical science on it and multi-part addition and subtraction in the math part. If you have time, I would get the study guide from ATI. It really helped to get a review of basic geometry, which I have not used since sophomore year of high school, and basic grammer rules. If they do it online, you get your results immediatly, which was really nice to have. I got an 86%, which put me in the 93% of all people who take it and I only reviewed for about 1 hr a night for a week.

They let you get a one semester deferment? And its guaranteed that you will be in the next semester? Im wondering if they do still allow this, if alternates get that option as well... What are the rules regarding the deferment?

From what I was told when I called after I received my acceptance letter in November is that you can defer to start one semester and one semester only. So I do think it's guaranteed you have a spot for sure the semester you defer to. If I can remember correctly I think they may have touched on this at one of the info seminars. To request the deferrement they require you to send in a signed letter via mail asap. Not sure what they allow now or if that applies to alternates.

isn't it 200 hours or more of volunteer work that they require? im pretty sure it wasn't 300 hours. I'll be applying for cypress this coming fall and with the classes i'm taking over the summer, i'll have a total of 28 points. 29 points if i volunteer. Do you guys think i have a good chance of getting in for Spring 2010? I was also confused about the CPR ceritification. Is it required that we have to have this certificate before we get admitted into the program?

No, it's required before you start your clinicals the the third week of the first semester.

I am also an alternate for cypress, I will see you all on the 19th.

I also got accepted to Golden West, but not until January and I am so confused on which to choose. I would rather go to Golden West, but I don't want to wait that long.

Does anyone know which schools are harder, different dropout rates, anything?
