I got my acceptance letter for Cypress College Fall 2010

Published

Did anyone else get one. I'm looking to get to know some people for a study-group. All my friends got in last semester.

I am on the alternates list! but I still have to do all the background check, CPR and dr's visit stuff. hopefully this means I am high on the list!!!

I hope you make it. I was told that the alternates usually get in. Just make sure you do all the stuff.

I'm on the alternate list too. Does anyone know approximately how many alternates there are? I am excited for finally seeing some kind of hope but don't want to get my hopes up. If I don't get in as an alternate, does anyone have any idea what my chances would be for Spring or is just like starting all over again when I have to reapply in September?

Go ask the Health Science Counselor, I'm sure she'll have the answer to both your questions. From what I've heard, in the past, a great deal of the alternates get in. People choose not to accept the spot, people drop, etc.

I believe that if we are not selected for fall, then we have to update our status in September and we remain on the list, but you do not have to reapply. Out of curiosity, how many points do each of you have? I have 25 after the new points system was rolled out and will get 1-2 more after I am done with 2 classes this semester.

I have 28 or 29 points. Which two classes do you still have to take?

I am in nutrition and developmental psych. Denise said that nutrition would count and that my Asian American women's writing class from when I got my BS would give me another point. I originally had 23 points, and got 2 more because of my math and statistics classes, but did not realize that I could get the one for the writing class until after the deadline passed to update. I have to finish nutririon in order to get that point.

Awe man, I forgot to keep track of what my score is there. To be honest, I applied at several schools and now all the information from all the schools has become blurred, :uhoh3: especially because the applications have updated as well. Can someone give me a breakdown of their scoring system with the updated application because I would really like to figure mine out.

Also, have you found anything out about our hopes as alternates?

they give points based on grades and classes you have taken. For Anatomy, physiology and micro they give you 5 pts for an A, 3 for a B and 1 for a C. they then give one point for passing with a C or better for each of the following: college writting, intro to sociology, speech, PE, a humanities class and an arts class and 2 points for general psych, and math 40 (or higher). This year they also had to add 5 points because so many people had 25 points (the old maximum total). If you have a degree in a health science field, work experience or are bilingual, they will give you 5 extra points. You can also earn points because of volunteer work, family circumstance or classes taken while earning a degree in another area. so the new max is 30 pts.

Are you going to be at the meeting on the 19th? in my alternates letter, it says that I have to attend a mandatory meeting at the school, get a physical, background check and make sure my cpr certification is up to date. I am taking that as a good sign that I am high on the list if they want me to jump through all of those hoops while listed as an alternate!

Hmmm. Im thinking some of those categories have a point cap, because if not, I would have more than 30 points. I have A for Micro and A for Anatomy, B for Physio. I passed freshman english, sociology, speech, PE, humanities, psych, and Math. I have a Phlebotomy certificate, but no work experience in the field, have Spanish classes, and I do remember I qualified for the special circumstances points. I should have a pretty high point value. Man, it makes you wonder just how good these other people are that got accepted for sure.

I am going to the meeting. I am sure all alternates have to go and do all that stuff just in case they are accepted. The letter says the TEAS testing is on that Friday and Saturday as well. Do you know if we are supposed to schedule the day or just show up? I tried calling the office but it went to voicemail and no one called back. Also, do you have any idea when we find out if we are actually accepted?
