I give up!

I'm done! I truly do not think I can take anymore! I know nursing school is hard! I know it takes a lot of focus and commitment to get through! I know there is a lot of stress involved! I get all of that! I'm doing well in my classes, have had a few clinicals and have done relatively well in those (although with beginning clinicals there's not a lot to do well on, most of it is simply orientation). I've done all the ATI computer work required of me. The school has made me think that my lifetime dream of being a nurse is just not worth it! There is so much drama and disorganization in this school it is unbelievable. The policies and rules change on a daily basis. I'm tired of being scolded like a child for imagined wrongs. It's like being in 1st grade all over again. If one person in the class does something, the whole class is taken to task for it instead of that person being taken aside and reprimanded. Scoldings and punishments are handed out on rumors with no proof of anything. Furthermore, if you are taken to task for something, it's not made clear what it is you're being disciplined for. It's all very vague. The chain of command is a joke. The nursing director directly interferes when you try to go higher than her. I just don't think I can take this anymore! I can take the stress of the classes and schedule, I just can't take the stress of the school not knowing which end is up. I GIVE! Not sure I will be finishing the nursing program because of this.

Nice to see you made it and a progression of the story. I think you are correct in stating "I backed off the drama". This is really key in nursing school. Many people bring their insecurities to nursing programs and cause a lot of the messy things that happen. Then they try to bring you into their drama which creates stress. it happened to me and all I could do is sit back and marvel at the dysfunction. Now looking back I find it amusing.

The key to surviving nursing school, be congenial to everyone but friends with no one. In essence, be pleasant with everyone and once the gossiping and drama beings you quietly exit.... Run your own race and be in charge of your own education. Compare yourself to no one and your classmates should never have the power to ruin your attitude.

Are we going to the same school? I feel like I could have written this.

But instead of thinking about quitting, I'm focusing on just how close I am to graduating. Honestly, nursing school is a beast and no one will ever understand it until they've been through it. It's tough and the psychological drama isn't easy either. A lot of people in my program hate that we're treated like children. While I agree, I also see the faculty point of view. They could make nursing school as simple as coming to class, taking exams, and going to clinical without all the drama and difficulties. But then everyone and anyone would be able to get through nursing school. Then everyone and anyone would be taking people's lives into their hands every day that would have no business being there.

They're not trying to be bullies. Your faculty (and every other nursing school faculty, for that matter) is trying to make sure that the only ones who graduate are the ones that will make safe and adequate nurses. Honestly, if you can't handle the heat of nursing school, you better get out of the kitchen now. It's nothing compared to real life.

I'm not understanding how any poster here can say that "all schools" are like that. Most of us have only been to one nursing school, or maybe a couple if they have done ADN to BSN to MSN.

My school was a public research university that was very organized and there was little to no drama, certainly NOTHING like has been described in the OP.

Glad to read that you sucked it up and stayed the course, OP. IF what you want is to be a nurse and you really don't have the option of leaving, then you really only had one option anyway. Good luck next year.

I just want everyone to leave me alone and let me do what I need to do which is get through school. Stop dragging me into all the stuff! There, I feel better now lol.

We knew you could do it. Everybody has a bad day now and then.

Glad we could help. ;)
