Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I' am a new Grad. i have 2 months alredy looking for a job.

i'm from San Diego. i have been everywhere.not luck at all.

i was CNA and PCT. i have IV certif. and others thing. but not experience as LVN.

What should i do? i though as soon i get the licence, i'll get a job.:o

I went to the health fair this monday. but the recluter they' said just go on line and apply. but i said OK but then was the objective of the fair if they not even had that list of opening.

i have applied about 20 or more jobs online.

Thank you. if there is some one from san diego who wants to give a glue i would really appreciate.;)

Congratulations on your gastric bypass & plastics. I, too went that route. My RNY was in 12/2003 & plastics 3/2005 & 8/2005. I have no problem handling school all day & the rigors of clinicals. I do kno that there is no way I'd have been able to handle it if I still weighed 350 lbs.

I actually never made it to my goal & probably never will.

It's true what they say about college & the freshman 15. It's so easy to gain weight, something I thought would never happen to me but it did. Stress, sitting hours doing homework, no time to exercise all ganged upon me & a 20 lb gain resulted, all in my hips & butt! I'm tryng now to turn that around. I can really feel the pull on my plastic surgery scars (I have a lower body lift & the scar across the back takes the brunt of my weight gain.

Anyway, unless your health is not good due to your surgeries, you won't have any problems attending school. Good luck!

Yep, I had my lower body lift in December, it was the hardest surgery I have ever had!! I am having my breast lift/augmentation on Thursday, if I don't do it now, I won't do it for over a year. (when school is out).

I am really excited, and just ready to be done with it. I also am having trouble with my bile duct, still, but they said I could get my plastics done. I am soooooooooooooooooo constipated lately that I am taking colace, and milk of magnesia, and I literally am full of it!! I have about 4 pounds that I need to poo out!! I know, TMI....but I am trying to push the fluids so I can get cleaned out by Thursday!

Thanks again, and I agree...at least I am not 300lbs anymore, and I can handle 148 if that is the highest I get. I am trying to nip it in the bud, but it is really from being constipated. Once I can get cleaned out, I will be around 144 again.

Congrats on your RNY and weight loss, and also the plastic surgery. The LBL is/was the toughest surgery, and I know what you mean about the scars pulling. I can exercise, and when I run, they pull around the back side a lot more than the front.

You are a tough lady, and you have really inspired me to keep going!

I was only suggesting that she look at her resume, as there appeared to have a lot of errors. Actually I am very good at grammar and spelling, punctuation, hmm, not sure.....sometimes I type as I talk.....if you know what I mean ;)

I just noticed gross errors that really stood out, and then I read the other posts and saw that others had also noticed it as well.

I don't know where I have "typed" on here that is terrible, other than an occasional typo??

Sorry, not on here to poke jabs at the person, just was pointing out something that I did not see until pgs 3 or more out of 8 pgs.

I have a 4.0 in all my college classes except math, which I hate with a passion, so I just dread having to take algebra, again. I am sort of excited to do the LPN classes, again.....I sometimes feel that I should not be doing this at my age, but I see others who have gone back to school at age 50+

I just had gastric bypass done 18 months ago, and had plastics done in December to remove excess skin, so I am wondering how I will physically do having to go to school 5 days a week, Mon-Fri??

Hopefully I will adjust, and my body will be good!!

Thanks,

Have a great Mother's Day

mytyping and grammer suck lol - but im a good nurse - and i just hav to put extra effort into important items like resumes and charting - please - i understand its annoying to some when people cant type or talk well but that doesnt make em a bad person or a bad nurse and anyone who looks that way ( i recall someone saying they throw typoed resumes in the circulr file - ) i guess i think if someone looks at that as the only thing before meetinga nd checking further they just may be missing someone great.

i work through an agency - decidedly to see if i would like working in the prison - i love it but would never ( no matter how good the bennies are) work at the one i work at for them - the reason being is the staff get forced to do doubles ( 18 hour shifts then have to come back in 8 for thier normal shift) when someone calls in or there is no "staff" to be there with the agency nurses- no thanks - i wont ruin my health overworking for anyone. as agaency i loveit :)

Exactly. The state LVN's that are being brought in to replace the MTA's are only getting $19/hr AND can be forced to work involentary OT. Coming back in 8 hours to do another 16 OT , sucks. The MTA's did it for decades but were paid much more than these state LVN's.

Agencies do have their perks...8 and you hit the GATE!

Yeah ... I work as a CDC RN and, so far, I've only been mandated once but ... at $40 an hour base, $60 OT ... at least it's worth it. It probably wouldn't be worth it for LVN's.

I'm assuming they haven't mandated me that much because they've been hiring so many RN's and so many RN's have been willing to work there with the pay raises. However, if it does get to be too much, I'll just transfer to one of the four other prisons in my area.

Are you able to relocate.Cleveland and its suburbs seem to screaming for LPN jobs.

You can't underestimate the value of the benefits though ... at CDC the pension benefits alone are worth another $6 an hour. I can't get that kind of pension anywhere else. We get more paid holidays than anywhere else I know of, there's an additional 36 hours of paid time off for education, etc. ... the list goes on and on.

With what they're paying me as an RN plus the benefits ... I just don't feel like I can complain about being mandated.

Nevertheless, I hear what you're saying. I do drive an hour to the prison where I work and I do spend a lot of money on gas. I could move closer to save on gas but, I'm also centrally located within driving distance to other prisons so, if I get mandated too much or get assignments I really don't like then ... I'll just transfer to a different facility and try something else.

The beauty of being a state employee is that there's tons of other agencies that you can transfer to also ... and not lose your pension and other benefits.

Yep. Which is one reason I decided to stay an MTA/LVN, albeit in the Dept. of Mental Health. The state pays up to 85% of my health benefits, I can retire at 50 with 3% of my max income for every year work . (20 years = about 60%...30 years = 90%). A salary of $74,000 before overtime. You simply cannot beat this package for an LVN anywhere. Plus, if I get tired of this job I can transfer to another state job since I have a bachelor's degree.

I seriously considered Mental Health and it would be a better commute for me but, an RN got stabbed there, a doctor got his jaw broken ... and another MD was attacked just last week.

Hopefully your CDC MTA training will help but ... the staff just doesn't seem to be protected at this particular facility. Hopefully yours is better.

CDC is much better for RN's anyways. If I / when I get my RN I would go CDC. Not only is the pay higher, but the RN's here at the Dept of Mental Health are getting SLAMMED with involentary OT. It is not uncommon for them to get forced to stay 2 to 3 times a week for extra shifts.

The inmates here are more unpredictable but there are tons of MTA's here for the custody work to protect the dr.'s and RN's hehe. RN's do get assualted in CDC though. We had a couple of them grabbed on the butt. We also had an RN that was having "inappropriate" relations with an inmate. She is now serving time in prison, as sex with inmates is now a felony and prosecuted as rape.

Well ... I'll take getting grabbed in the butt over getting stabbed, which is what happened to an RN at the state criminal psych facility in my area. I didn't work there but I did do a clinical rotation at that hospital during nursing school ... and the staff told me about all the stuff that went down there. The RN got stabbed during one of our clinicals and was hospitalized in the ICU at the time.

I'm not saying that can't happen in prison but I do feel much safer at CDC ... just because there's SO many CO's around. There just isn't much security at the forensic psych facility, at least in my area. They only had a couple of CDC CO's at the gate and two hospital police to cover 20 units ...

At the prison, we've had RN's get involved with inmates too, one of them in our office. It's weird because I can't figure out how she even got to know him. There aren't that many opportunities to interact with inmates in this particular job ...

They're around, of course, but most of them are shackled and accompanied by two CO's. Not to mention there's tons of staff around. How you start a romance, so to speak, under those conditions is beyond me ...

But she was smart enough to quit before they caught her ... she did marry the guy at the prison since he's a lifer. It caused quite a stir at the time.

How RN's go into these prisons and end up sleeping with HIV and Hep. C infected LIFER inmates is beyond me, but I have seen it happen. It seems to happen a couple times a year at each prison. These women should be in prison and I am glad law enforcment is cracking down on them more and more.

There are different levels in the prisons and the lower allow more time for these special "relationships" so to speak.

Great reason to marry someone LOL! Tall, dark, handsome, and lifer..
