i did it. i finally wrote to oprah on her website for show ideas. i think it will take someone like her to shed light on this so-called nursing shortage issue. if as a nurse you were laid off from work or you are a new grad having a hard time finding work, i recommend that you do the same so that they see that this is a national problem. i also mentioned the whole foreign nursing issue too. speak your mind! here's the link:

way to go girl!...im a foreign nurse educated nurse and having a hard time im not considered new grad but im not considered as experienced nurse too so i dont know what is my status, its frustrating.=(
UPDATE: I just got an e-mail from Nursing2009, nursing journal (I had e-mailed them venting the day I wrote to Oprah). They want to print my quotes in the November issue!
Also, they are on Facebook and have questions for New Graduates that are having difficulties finding jobs. You may want to go on the site and participate in this so that they have a clear view of what we New Grads are going thru right now.
Thank you to those who supported me, we will get thru this...you will see!

Thanks! That was a great idea. I'll be filling out that form in a few weeks (you need to be 21 apparently) but I had a few friends/family do it. Hopefully enough people will get through!

Obama is 'PRO' foreign nurses (probably because he thinks there is a nursing shortage).. considering Oprah is such a huge Obama fan I am wondering how she will react. Just saying....
I think the letter is an excellent idea though, and I hope she researches this problem and does a show on it. She seems to be able to open up peoples' eyes and make things happen.

I just wrote a letter to her too.
I reposted this idea in the general nursing forum - giving full credit to you with a link to your original post and a copy of your original post. I really think you have a good idea here. Kudos. Here is the post there:

Here is my thoughts I will be sending. Dear Oprah, I am writing concerning the current thread posted on allnurses.com website regarding shortage in nursing. There may be areas of shortage but my personal opinion is because of the lack of help the full- time nurses have on their jobs because of the lack of nurses which drives nurses out the door. There are hospitals in the state of Mississippi with great areas of specialty to work in but the pay is below what a nurse working in another area of specialty would rate and in this economy its hard to live off ( I'm working because I wanna help people .)nurses have to eat too. So nurses who need the extra money leave the minimal paying jobs @ the hospitals. Also another problem is the fact that nursing is overwhelmingly women and any time you have a bunch of women around period you have trouble. I've seen women quit in the middle of their first day of orientation because of negative attitudes so there really isn't a shortage of nursing there is just an accumulation of things pulling us in so many directions leaving areas of need very much open which is the real concern.

Is this what you actually sent, or is this a rough draft? It is very hard to follow.
LOL. Not quite I'm working on it.

Did you see the show she did??? Oprah is way to right wing to support core nursing values...but then again the ANA supports ObamaCare.
Yes I did and she is a very big supporter of OBAMA.
