I feel like a idiot, I saw a pt on Thursday dx strep throat ordered amox did not notice child was allergic to PCN , came back in on Friday with a rash changed the abx to azithromycin, pt back today not any better parents upset because child is not better , I feel like a failure

I gotta say from a professional standpoint, I'm a little hinky about administration making meetings behind a physician's back if they are thinking of replacing him/her. Just seems like they should be direct with this physician, call him in and talk about whatever issued exist, and let that person speak to those concerns. That's how I want to be treated as a professional and I could not participate in treating a colleague in a way that is less than I would want for myself.

Oh they have had numerous meetings with him alone and as a full staff meeting with everyone in the office. They have repeatedly warned him about his behavior and treatment of not only me but others. I don't feel obligated to defend him or condone his actions. So I will see what happens at the meeting

Sounds like they've put in a good effort to make him aware of whatever the issues are...

Does seem like the MD would like for you to go. Take the hint and go on your own terms.

Missed the last few posts, still think you should look for another pasture. Something about this situation makes me think you will be more than taken advantage of.

I am waiting for the meeting, with the new md they are bringing on to replace the one who is now there. Unless management keeps their word then I am leaving. Of course it will mean no job no income

Only if you do not start looking now. I would only quit a position under the most dire of circumstances, otherwise I would be on a perpetual job search, or open my own practice. Good luck, that md sounds like a cretin.

Well the meeting went well. But still keeping my options open. Today the same nurse once again roomed a pt with the other provider, this is the 5th time she has done it . Needless to say I approached her and she was like oh no I did? So I had asked her to take care of a referral I had given her this morning since she was busy surfing the Internet. She was unhappy this morning when I asked her to do the referral, said she was going to wait til Friday and even unhappier when I asked again. Then she left for a dr appt. I had had enough and called the office manager, explained the situation to her, she asks to speak to the nurse I explained she was off to a appt, which she was not aware of. And it went downhill from there. After they got ahold of her she denied I wanted the referral done that day. Apologized to management for placing the pt with the wrong provider not me. Then she comes and snaps my head off about the referral stating she did not leave it sitting for a week , I never said that. But referals sit for 3-4 days. Yeah am I mad sure have I learned my lesson you bet

This is a mgmt issue. A clear, understandable job description for this nurse/MA would solve the problem.

"Referrals to specialists are to be completed within 2 business days from when they are generated" (then you be sure to date them!)

"All outside appts of a personal nature must be requested and approved in writing with the office manager"

"Exam rooms are to be cleaned each day they are used"

"The MA may assist other providers only when all work is complete for the current provider she works with OR upon permission of that provider"

These things must be clearly spelled out. Then, when she refuses to comply there should be a process to terminate her employment. Make sure you're in on the choice of her replacement!

Please don't think me insensitive but the writing is on the wall here:

1. You've been complaining about the MD and staff for months now.

2. You've been "thrown under the bus" (your words).

3. You obviously are pretty stressed.

GET OUT!

Life is too short to be miserable.

I was in a similar situation in a prn position: unsupportive MD, unhappy staff and thus they made my life miserable. It wasn't the greatest decision financially (the pay was great) but boy my stress level decreased!

Take care.
