I agree with all the above posters. Take your power back! Don't let others dictate how you see yourself in any area of your life, or you will always be up & down according to the will of those around you. If this is what you want, do it and don't concern yourself about other peoples opinions! Good Luck!

If you never try, you will never know if you can do it or not. If you don't make it at least you tried. TRY it. You will probably develop a support system with other students and staff. After all, you will be spending a majority of your time with them! As you can see, people on this website are very supportive also. Good luck.

I have also been out of school for twenty years i went back and got my medical assisting degree and now I am planning on going into the ADN program I did all of this while raising two kids on my own and just after leaving my husband you can do anything you set your mind to and just set time aside for studying you never know what you can do until you try I was scared to death when i went back to school but after getting my associates degree in medical assisting I have a 3.8 gpa I am really glad i decided to go back just believe in your self and do what your heart tells you to do

If you really want to do it, stop listening to people that are not positive. Go to a local bookstore and look at some of the books in the nursing section. See if the material is interesting to you. Look at the pre-requesites for the programs in your area. Get a feel for where you are in your knowledge of math and science. You may have to study harder, but that doesn't mean that you cannot succeed if you really want it. Start keeping a file with info on the various programs and requirements. There may be some new programs in your area that fit your needs and what you want. The more research you do, the greater your comfort level and conviction level will be.

THANK YOU SO MUCH IS IT OK THAT I KEEP IN TOUCH,THX

Of course, keep in touch. That's what we're here for.

I suggest that you find a vocational school or community college in your area. These kinds of schools are geared toward meeting the needs of returning students and adult learners. They understand that a good percentage of their enrollees will have been out of school for many years. And they also know that some of those people may not have done too well the first time around.

Adult learners do best with an approach that recognizes their need to balance other responsibilities with school. They also blossom in an environment that helps them identify their strengths and shore up their weaknesses.

Many voc-tech schools and community colleges start you off with diagnostic testing to see if your skills are up to par for taking one of their programs. If not, they offer classes or individual training in whatever areas you need help. Usually, these learning opportunities are provided free or at a minimal cost.

Don't waste time and energy playing tug of war with your family. The best argument in your favor is achievement. Find a school. Or several. Keep asking questions and looking for possibilities until you find a good fit. Take advantage of any services they offer to help place and support adult learners. Take any remedial classes you may need to equip yourself to get a solid education.

And come back here and let us know how you are doing. Many people on this board have been where you are and would love to help you find success.

It never fails to amaze me how many people will try to talk you out of a dream and tell you you cant make it. Dont listen to them, you know in your heart what you are capable of, and when you graduate, youll show em!
