I failed my nursing exam AGAIN!

Published

Hello everyone. So at my shcool they require us to take the TEAS V exam. The first time I took it I bought the ATI book from my school's bookstore, studied for a week and did not pass. I firgured I didn't give myself enough time to study. This time I studied with the same ATI book AND bought the McGraw Hill book and studied for over a month diligently even a few times a day and STILL failed. I mean I don't know what else I could have done. I feel so stupid and this is the only thing that's holding me back from applying to the program and getting on a waiting list. Now I cannot take it again and have to meet with a counsler and take a remediation program. Do you guys think this is a sign that maybe nursing is not for me? If I cannot pass an entrance exam will I not make it in a nursing program?

Specializes in Med/ Surg/ Telemetry, Public Health.

Is there any other schools that you can apply to that doesn't require the teas?

Yea I looked into that but the school I am currently attending has a great nursing program compared to ther community colleges in my area and I cannot afford to go to a university at this time.

What areas are you having a hard time in on the TEAS? What is your strong area?

The science. I did awful and the math I did okay on

Were the math problems harder than the TEAS study guide?

I just took the online practice test for the TEAS on the Math section and there are a few trick math questions on there that was not covered in the study guide. The graphs and a few other things really kinda tricky.

Actually the math on the actual exam to me was a bit easier than the problems in the book. But the science in both the ATI book and McGraw Hill book was nothing like the science on the actual exam. I felt neither book helped me out in that area. I don't know maybe I let nerves get the best of me since it was my second and last chance to take the exam.

Hello, when you study for the science section, you need to study around the practice questions and topics too. Don't just try to memorize the stuff that are given to you. For example, the practice question asks: which organ or where is protein being digested at? The answer is stomach. Now, to study around the question, you need to ask yourself... what about carb and fat? where will they be digested at? Hope this helps.

it is good that they will give you more than 2 chances. the school i plan to go to. they only allow you to take it twice. if you fail both. than you are done forever . so i am still studying before i am confident to take it and pass it..

I'm sorry that you failed... I took all my science prereq's and studied using the McGraw book prior to taking the TEAS. The knowledge from my science courses helped me more...so maybe the class your school is offering is not such a bad idea...keep your head up and DO NOT give up. Some ppl just don't test well...practice makes perfect especially if they are willing to work with you...!

Don't worry, hon. You are not the only one.

I just took the TEAS the second time and failed (and of course...crying my eyes out as I am writing this).

I just can't seem to pass any of the sections - so don't feel dumb. There are people like myself who receive far worse scores than you. I should be the one feeling dumb.

I wish they had a TEAS for people who speak a second language. Apparently, my ESOL classes didn't help me much. *le sigh*

I also studied from the book but the information doesn't sink in. I wish I could create a plan B but I figure that I should quit my pursuit in nursing. (If this continues) I can't live with my parents forever and be unemployed on the same time.

Wise words that I wish I could follow: DON'T GIVE UP.
