Hi fellow nurses,
Ok, 4 years ago I graduated as a RN. I applied for a job at a local hospital, got hired, got my pre-employment physical, and then 4 days before I was going to begin hospital orientation, the recruiter called and fired me. She said I falsified on my application the part that says "Have you ever been fired from a job." I demanded to know which of my former employers said I was fired, but she refused to tell me. I had words for her, demanded to talk to her boss, etc. I was just so mad. And then I called all of my former employess and I found out who said I was fired. It was a nursing home, and they keep shoddy records. They have on their records (a 4 x 4 flaah card) that I am not "rehirable" because I quit without notice. Which is not entirely true, I gave a few days notice. But nonetheless, I quit....they did not fire me. I tried getting in touch with the nurse recruiter at the hospital who hired/fired me about what happened, but she would not return any of my calls.
So I moved on with life. I now have excellent references to bring to the table and I am moving back to my hometown (where this hospital is at) and I would like to work at that hospital. But I am DREADING being interviewed by her. And yes, she is still there and she is the only NC. And yea, I think she will remember me. I have a unique name and I bet there is something about that incident on my record.
She was completely unprofessional back then, I blew a fuse, how am I going to go in and be taken seriously if I interview again. Should I even bother? The odds of her hiring me are (?) now? If I do apply and interview, should I mention anything about 4 years ago or just act like it didn't happen? If it were you, would you apply?
It's hard to be upset with someone when they quickly admit to being wrong. I'd say something along the lines "I really wanted to work here and was caught off gaurd when you resended my offer. I acted totally unprofessional, and hope that you can sincerely forgive me and give me another chance"
One time when I had been a real butt to my boss (although I was justified, believe me) I took her a big piece of pie. I brought it to her office with a white flag (klenex) and told her that I was big enough to know when I needed to eat some humble pie. She laughed so hard she couldn't be mad at me anymore. Sometimes you have to use a little honey (or in this case pie) to get what you want.
What do you have to lose? Good luck!
I wouldn't reapply. She immediately jumped to the conclusion that you were a liar and had you fired without so much as a phone call for clarification first. Do you want to work for a facility where those in charge have a severe lack of judgement? I wouldn't entrust her with my trash, much less my nursing license. I vote for find employement elsewhere.
I agree with this. You have no idea what influences this person enjoys in the facility and what is "known" about you amongst your potential coworkers. Going in, I wouldn't trust anyone there.

Possibly, on the other hand; the nurse recruiter here has nothing to do with us after we are hired. I don't even know who my facility uses for a recruiter.
I'd see if any department or floor managers would talk to you informally (just call the floor and ask for the manager) before applying. Ask if there are any openings you might apply for, and if there are and you seem to get along with this person, explain what happened (no blaming, very short "I had a disagreement with your recruiter when I was a new grad"). Then when you apply, if you don't hear anything you can ask the manager to follow up with the recruiter.
Sometimes you make the touchdown diving over the line, and sometimes by doing an endrun!
I agree with JBudd and this is exactly what I was going to tell you to do... Go first to the nurse manager of the unit that you would like to work on... More that likely he/she would love to talk to you. This is how I got my job in the OR. Skipped nurse recruiter all together. I was hired by nurse manager and then had to go see nurse recrutier. Give it a try. Let us know how it all turns out!!!! Take care....
