Hello everyone,

I just need to vent/get advice on this.

I just found out yesterday via FEDEX letter I received that the accelerated program that was supposed to start on jan 16, is postponed until august 25. I was REALLY upset. They said that it was because the instructor gave short notice and LEFT. They are having an information day about this on jan 16 with the dean and assistant dean. They have offered us to take fundamentals of nursing via audit being that we were given short notice. My question is, come time for this meeting, what do you think I should suggest and/or ask? I do want to do this program, but this will set me back another 6 months and I cant apply to anywhere because the deadlines for the fall have past already. I am at a loss, but I am trying to find ways to keep myself positive about this.......thanks in advance for taking time to read this.

What a bummer! Unless you thought for sure you could get into another program sooner I'd just go with the flow. Can you take some gen ed classes in the meantime to take some of the load off you when you start? Good luck.

I wish I had req classes left to take....that makes it a bigger bummer....

Dang! What about a venipuncture course? I'm grasping at straws here I know but I'd hate to see you just sit around for 6 months, lol.

I wonder if they have will offer some of your courses now? I can't imagine that one teacher would necessitate canceling every class. Sending good wishes to you and please let us know how this works out.

I am very sorry, I have no answers for you, I wish I did, but I read your post and wanted you to know I sympathize. A school in my area did this, this year as well, I heard about it on this forum I think it's tragic!

The only positive thing I can think of is, your probably better off without that instructor because he/she was obviously a very sefish person.

Best wishes for your future success.

LOL...i know, thank you....I will look into that venipuncture class and I will keep ya'll posted after I attend the meeting on the 16th....you are right about the teacher, I think they (the faculty) will learn from this, unfortunately, I will be part of the learning process.. :)

Oh my God! thats insane. So many of us have already quit our jobs this week to start next week NS, I hope you arent' in that situation. I' suggest them get thier act together and hire people with perhaps better backgrounds. All I know what to say is I'm sorry for you, I couldn't imagine going thro that. Try to stay positive and go see what they will say on Jan 16, keep us posted k? Best Wishes

Even though this is what we all think, I'd probably skip mentioning it to them.

I am sorry this happened to you. I unserstand that the instructor was unprofessional by quitting on short notice, but I think it speaks more of the program, if they had to postpone the start of the program because one instructor quit.

In my program THEY would never do something like that. More than once professors have moved or have been unavailable for a class they were scheduled for, but the program director has alwasy found a last minute alternative, which included replacing the instructor. Are they saying that none mof them can teach med-surg or nursing basics? The head pediatrics professor is a military reservced nurse. When the war in Iraq had begun she was deployed. did the program stop because of her? NO! Every week 5 professors took turn to teach the class. The peds prof had left her notes, powerpoint presentations, and tests. The class (the class before mine) must have suffered because of this, but they graduated when they had to.

What if midway through the program another professor gets sick (long term) what are they going to do? Suspend the program? And are they saying that for the first quarter/semester only one instructor would have thaught all the classes? This is truly sad...

Once you get a chance to speak to the program director, you should ask her/him what he/she intends to do to fix/or stop such reocurrence. It is unacceptable that students should have to wait another 8 months to start a program they have worked so hard to get into.

Keep your head up and good luck, G-d knows you need it!

I am so sorry to hear that. Maybe, there are other course you can take. Is the program an Associates or BSN?

If Associates you may be able to take a course for your BSN. Better yet, maybe take a EKG course. Once you graduate from the program, hospitals are always looking for nurses who know how to read the EKG monitor on a telemetry/ Cardiac floor.

When you attend the meeting, make sure you choose your words wisely. Use the word "concern"

My aunt went through that also, actually, her teacher left in the middle of the semester. Her teacher did not want to be a part of the mess that was already going on there. Therefore, the students did not have a teacher for two weeks. They hired a teacher who never taught nursing before. Lets just say the situation became worst.

Look into some programs that you feel would benefit you, in the field you have choosen. I truly believe things happen for a reason. Pray, and keep your eyes on the prize!

Keep up posted.

I can only imagine how disappointed you feel. I'm sorry this happened. If you are looking for classes to fill a semester, I would suggest a pharmacy class. You can never learn too much about that. Another class I wish I had taken is Spanish. It's still my goal to take Spanish classes when the kids get a little older.
