I'm sorry, but I really want to get this out of my head. I just can't believe that a nursing aide was able to rape a helpless 23 yr old cerebral palsy patient. This is one of the most horrifying news I have heard..and horrifying is probably an understatement. I mean, what was he thinking?!?!!

That's awful. Do you possibly have a link to this story? I hadn't heard about this.

If abusers want to abuse, they always find a way. The first thing is to find someone who can't fight back.

I have heard of this happening before. The one that I'm thinking of happened at a Chicago area nursing home. I believe that one of the custodial staff raped a woman who had severe CP and was mentally incompetent as well. The crime was only discovered when the victim became pregnant. She delivered a baby by c-section and suffers the from the same conditions which put her mom in the original care center to begin with.
Unless this thread was in relation to another thread on here, this is the one that I know about. It happened within the last year.

yep that's the one..they had to get the DNA of every male staff. It was a children and young adults nursing home. The verdict was just delivered yesterday..he gets at least 6-30 years imprisonment and will get deported after that...and to think, he's a Filipino..It's front page news in the Chicago Tribune Metro yesterday. AND he improvised a latex glove and used it as a condom..(whaaaat??!!!) I can't believe that this can actually happen. What could possibly be more horrifying than this?!?

That is sick....
I'm sorry, my mistake... I do remember it being a nurse's aide, and not custodial staff.
What is very sad is that the victim's mother is now raising the child, who has some very, very serious deficits. My heart goes out to her. The victim, whom I believe is semi-comatose, doesn't remember anything. When the mom brings the baby in to see her, she doesn't even recognize the child as being hers. So very, very sad for all involved.

The thing that gets me is that our tax dollars are going to support him in prison for the next X number of years and THEN deport him? Why not send him packing now?

This story is no different then any person raping another person, any rape or molestation is horific. The problem is that when these preditors are caught we have to be human in the punishment even though their victims are going to live a life long horror. Maybe it is time to stop being a society of slapping hands and start making the punishment fit the crime. If a person is caught raping or molestation I agree with castration pure and simple, take the urge away. and so we keep it human and cost efficiant, it is cheeper to pay for the operating room, where sedation can be given, then it is to keep them in prison for 15 years. I know this is an ethical position to have but the current system is not working so it may be time to try something else.
forgive me in advance if I offend anyone by thinking this way.
