I already miss you, WGU!

As some of you already know, I earned my BSN degree online through Western Governors U earlier this year. As much as I enjoyed my WGU experience, I wanted to 'attend' a different school for graduate nursing studies because I didn't want my resume/CV crowded with degrees from schools with mega online presences.

I start the online MSN nursing education program at Eastern New Mexico U in a few days, on August 18th. Yesterday and today I was browsing through BlackBoard, which is the internet course delivery platform ENMU uses.

Now I realize how spoiled I've become because of WGU's self-pacing and lack of hard deadlines! All of the hard deadlines and discussion post requirements for ENMU's program are going to be quite an adjustment for me.

So, I already miss you, WGU!

Come back it's not too late!

LOL seriously, come back!! ;) Lots of people on the facebook groups have both degrees from WGU - after all, you could have done RN to MSN and skipped the BSN entirely..

Nah...I selected WGU's BSN program primarily for the 'credit laundering' and affordable tuition. I graduated from an unaccredited ASN program, and WGU was one of relatively few schools that was willing to grant generous transfer credit, whereas other schools wanted me to repeat almost everything.

But since I'd rather not have both the BSN degree and MSN degree conferred by the same mega virtual university, I'll stick with ENMU for the time being. However, I'll still be missing WGU whenever I'm staring at hard deadline dates. :)

That's what I plan on doing. :)

Can't say I understand your logic especially since I have seen people go through to masters and go on to earn DNP elsewhere - which is probably what I will be doing. (This is my last term before I bridge over to MSN so I have some time)

For those who have done this WGU has not seemed to deter them. There has been threads on this and I will definitely continue to monitor.

Good luck to you and I hope you keep in touch with WGU'rs. I always enjoyed your post and encouragement.

Well, I just learned that Neil deGrasse Tyson earned both his Master's and his PhD from Columbia, and academic incest didn't hurt his career too much ;)

Columbia University is in the Ivy League, unlike most schools. Multiple degrees from the same Ivy League university tend to further a person's career due to the air of prestige, academic rigor, and exclusivity.

If you are applying for a job that requires a graduate degree, do potential employers care where you got your undergrad degree? It would make sense that they would mainly be concerned with where you attended graduate school. I wish I could go back in time and do WGU's RN-MSN program!

Right I doubt if many potential employers look at masters degree and then go back and say now let's check your bachelor's.

I posted earlier about looking for an online micro class and came across WGU. I don't understand their prenursing RN/BSN. Is the program really all it's cracked up to be? I think what confused me was the clinicals, how does an online program guarantee clinical hours? Also, is WGU self paced? Are the exams proctored or...??? i want to consider this school if it's truly a good program, it seems too good to be true though.
