I am being advised that when I graduate I can walk right into a RN position. Why am I seeing that I may have to hound or beg  the HR for a position? I feel that the more you jump, hoot and holler in HR face, the more they laugh and get their thrills of saying "nothing yet, sorry". Maybe NM should be taken out of the picture all together. Why can't the director of nursing do all the hiring like in the old days. To me it is crazy to believe that I will have to beg for a RN position. Am I being ignorant about some fact here in nursing?

If this is so, then I will have a professional do my resume, betcha dollar bottom I will. Now, I am scared of paying all this money for a degree and possibly may have to look at begging for a job. No way not me!!!!! Thumbs down on that.

How do the quotes work? When I click on the quote, it just turns orange with a - sign. Thank you.

Red: at the bottom of each post, you'll see buttons that say Thanks, Quote, and a couple you have to glide your mouse over to see what they are (like the QuickReply button). If you click on the Quote button of the post you want to reference, there will be a reply box for you with the entire post quoted.

If you want only part of the quote, just delete the words in between the "on quotes" and "off quotes" brackets. If you delete any part of the brackets, the html won't work. Just hit the "Quote" button and take a look at the html coding at the top of your new reply box. You'll figure it out :)

Then again, I'm just a dummy 2-yr RN. I don't know nuthin' about nuthin'. Just ask our OP.

Hmmm interesting. I had to reply. Are you for real?! I guess I must be at the bottom of the totem pole, since I started as an LPN and then worked full time to get my RN ADN. I also have four year degree from a BIG four school and if I want to get my BSN it's really just another year of schooling. As a new nurse myself I would check the attitude at the door. You sound confident which is a kudos but what you "learned" in school does not always work out perfectly in the REAL nursing world.

Jennifer RN ADN

I have two classmates in outer 'realms' like this. It's possible.

Wow. I wonder if his/her program is going so rah-rah-BSN (as well as stroking those newbie egos insanely) that they are encouraging students to think they are next to the Almighty when it comes to nursing? I don't know any soon-to-be grads who use the phrase "perfect the first time" when refering to their nursing abilities. Is this a falldown of the school? If it is, they are doing a real disservice to their graduating students; if they are being "raised" to believe themselves THIS fabulous the moment they hit the pavement, I can't imagine what a shock it's going to be for them in the real world.

It's not confidence, it's arrogance. He/she accused someone of bashing the new grad for having confidence. No one did that. If there's bashing (and I see it more as a dishing back, not bashing), it's because we recognize inane arrogance.

I'm confident. Markedly so. I'm also smart enough to know what I DON'T know, years after graduation. Appears not everyone is that bright. I really should see if there's anyone "a lot more smarter" to guide me....

I am in a 4 yr nursing program presently but once considered the ADN program. I just want to say that it is time for the board of nursing or whoever makes the decision to make some changes. Its not a 2-yr nursing program, I believe u need some prereqs even b4 application. It takes about 3yrs to get an ADN in nursing. Why is it still called a 2yr program? Its annoying sometimes!!!

Ah, and that's a whole 'nother thread, LOL! One we talk about from time to time, just do a search on this site and you'll find them! :)

Then again, I'm just an ADN, so I probably can't navigate my own closet, let alone this website.

This is fun ;)

The quote thing is just not working. It just turns orange when I click on it, and no "quoted text is appearing in the reply screen. ???? Maybe I should get my BSN. ROFL!

Sorry, I was trying to be nice..yup it's arrogance.

Aw, I tried to be nice, too. Imparting wisdom and all, but that was a colossal waste of time, LOL! I'm starting to get snotty myself, now, but I'm just so aghast at this whole line of thinking that I can't help myself. I've never met anyone who actually voiced any of the ridiculous comments I've read here, so I'm kinda like that person who can't stop watching the train wreck...

Ok, sounds like you've got a defect of some kind! I don't see anything orange when I do this, so...not sure? Maybe a note to administrators asking if you've got something set wrong?

And yes, you aren't perfect the first time, every time, so your education is clearly lacking. Bad nurse!

I am totally dumbfounded by the OP attitude. A ADN's scope is less than a BSN's???? My guess she hasn't actually read what an RN's scope of practice is. Also, she might very well be surprised to see one of her future NM's is a lowly ADN who isn't as smart as she is because she went to a 4 year program. I just graduated with my ADN a year ago and will soon be starting my first RN job. Reading postings like this definately show a person how NOT to be. This person is also doing a diservice to all BSN grads who actually know they are not better than anyone else simply because of what kind of program they graduated from. It's attitudes like this that cause more problems than anything else.

I don't think the OP is headed for a hospital...? It sounds like the sister, a government RN (county health department?) who got the OP the job, will be in charge of this special deal. Our county health department doesn't take an RN (BSN or otherwise) without acute care experience. I'm not sure what kind of precepting he/she'll have if it's the kind of government job I'm thinking of. But who knows.
