Hello all,

I'm starting this thread for the new applicants for the hrsa nursing scholarship 09-10. Tor prettylady, I think its a random selection. Its the luck of the draw.

i THINK they actually received more funding from a stimulus grant...hopefully, that's why it is delayed and more of us will be awarded...i think i read somewhere in this post about the additional funding...???

I wondered about the extra funding when I read about it in this post. I already receive the scholarship and they have increasec our monthly stipend from 1234.00 to 1269.00. We have not received our ORC costs yet but they probably increased it also. Don't mean to add any extra stress to all of you waiting I just wanted to let you know. Good luck to all of you! I hope you receive notification soon, I know how hard the wait can be!!!:loveya:

Does anyone know if minorities are receiving more scholarships from HRSA? I was reading my Fundamentals book for an upcoming test and it mentioned the goal of HRSA was to get more minorities into the nursing profession. This just struck me as odd because I did not read anything about that regarding the HRSA before. I don't remember reading anything about non-discrimination in the paperwork either though.

I don't think that they are screening for ethnicity with this award. However, (and don't flame me here) when you award scholarships to people who have a lower income, a zero EFC in this case, you do tend to get more minorities. (I have a zero EFC but am white). If you search on HRSA, I think I may have seen another scholarship for "disadvantaged" students and that one may have an ethnicity component to it.

I believe this schlorship is aimed towards minority. However I do not think it intends to recruit one ethinicity over the other. Having a low socio- economic status as evidence by an EFC of 0 is a minority catergory in itself. Just an opinion.

Misslolalady, have you gotten any more coorespondance yet???? Did you ever get any word bout when and how you would start getting the funding?

I have not heard from HRSA again since they called me a week ago to verify my bank account info, but I was talking to the admin at my school yesterday on an unrelated manner, and she said that HRSA has contacted her a lot about me. She said they were verifying my admision, good standing, schedule, tuition, etc. And she also said that they contacted her a few times to verify that I was in sumer school and the details of all that.

I am frustruated that I have not heard back or gotten a definate yes or no. Just trying to be patient!

i talked to a guy at the call center today who says they are still awarding....

not sure how true it is but its promising.

wawa, its probly safe to say that you got it (if you are indeed in good standing and such, which im sure you are) they wouldnt be wasting time contacting the school, etc.

Hey, are there any seniors who applied for the hrsa scholarship? I am a senior in a BSN program. I don't know if that makes me a less desirable candidate for the scholarship being that I am almost done.

I have 14 months left in BSN program. Have 0 efc, 0 income, but filled bankruptcy in Jan of 2008. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I would think that getting the ones that are 1/4 to 1/2 way done would be a good gamble; I know I'm not turning back and have already been approached to work as tech in teaching hospital until I get done, so I know I could pay back with time or $$$.

I was a bit bothered not hearing anything and presume I have not been selected, but I will make it with or without the government's help and will be free to roam about the world and help whomever I choose! :yeah::jester:

Just wanted to let you all know that I received a letter today stating that I have been selected for the scholarship. The letter is in an envelope from DHS. Just so you all know that they are still coming. I live in Arkansas.
