2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

I'm from Florida and I'm still in final review. I spoke with an analyst on Friday though and apparently the analyst from Florida was in a car accident and will be out for the next two weeks..and he was handling Florida for the time being.

Hello everyone.

I am an APN student in Chicago. I got the initial "congratulations" email on July 18 and have been in final review since then. I called BCRS today to see what is going on and the man I spoke with informed me that everyone who was going to receive an award has already been notified. My congratulations to all of you and to those still in final review, I am sorry to inform you that we have not been selected. If someone has information to the contrary, I would love to hear it but for now, I am going to take out some loans after all.

I don't think he means those that are in final review won't be selected. I'm thinking that applies to people who are under review. If your in final review they already selected your application for the award but just needed additional documentation to verify that your still enrolled and in good academic standings.

I hope that you are right, Cianni2000 but I was very clear with him that I was in FINAL review and he said that all of the awards that were going to be made for this year had been disbursed. I am not sure how it has gone in past years or what percentage of those who are selected for final review ultimately receive the award but I have not yet heard anything or had a change in my portal and the words from the rep at BCRS were less than encouraging. I would love to be able to remain hopeful if someone has other information but I am not optimistic at this point.

I believe that everyone is getting different information from the customer service reps at BCRS. I called last Thursday night and the lady assured me that they still had a month to send out awards and that "under review" was still a good place to be. She also told me that the status would say something else if they weren't still reviewing our documents. Her examples were "no longer an applicant" or "no longer under review".

Apparently they have a lot more documents to sort through this time around. A girl I work with received the award two years ago and said that she actually had to fax in all of her information because it was not computer generated. Maybe that has something to do with it as well. I'm still optimistic. If they say they have another month...lets give it another month. :)

There's still hope! When I spoke on Friday with the analyst it was so he could email my school to verify in fact that I would be receiving this scholarship even though I'm in final review. He made it very clear that if I was dropped from my class I would be in breach of contract although it wasn't signed by the Secretary of health yet. He also inform me that the people we talk to at the customer service number are located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and they try to train them as best they can but sometimes still get it wrong.

I also called today after I initially read your first post and the man informed me that the August 31 deadline was for those still in under review.

Keep the faith. You have the award it is just taking time. If you read the post from previous years you will see that not everyone's status changed at the same time.

I hope you are right! I called today, and the man told me that all the awards were given out last month, and the people in Final Review were on the waiting list if the awardees declined. He pretty much told me that I didn't get it if my application says "Under Review." I'm disappointed, but I'll keep an eye out just in case there's still hope. Thanks pbflash42

I would think that had some truth to it as not one person posted they had received a email on the final day people were due to be notified. I know people who post on here are only a handful of the total applicants but I think there are still awards left to be given.

Yes ladies and gentlemen (new to the site), there is still hope! I just receive my confirmation email today as a participant immediately after class. So happy about it.
