2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

Hope some more of us hear something soon!

I just called today and the lady told me that they are behind this year and that if you are still under review to take a breather. She said they have until Sept. 30th to notify us. She also said that they are either rejecting or awarding as they go so if you havent got a rejection letter don't lose hope. I asked her how fair that was, because it seems to me they might run out of awards before some applications are even seen. She said when they close the application process, all applications are surveyed. And then as they review each application, after the surveys, they either reject or award. She also said to make sure you are checking your spam box and that the email will come from [email'][email protected][/email].

So until I get a rejection email I am not going to lose hope. Not to sound cocky but I have an EFC of 0 and a 4.0 GPA. So I would be really disappointed if I didn't receive the scholarship over people with higher EFC scores. This scholarship would makes dreams possible so dont lose hope!

Interesting! I wonder why they tell some people one thing and others this. I hope you're right! I could really use it too- but I've given up hope. I will be shocked if I got it now. I have 0 EFC and a 3.75 gpa.

I could use it as well but like you I've given up hope a long time ago. I was in a position where I would've had to drop out of my classes if I didn't get this. But it turned out for the better so I'm just glad I get to stay in my classes.

To be honest, at this point I'm not even sure if I would accept it if I got it now.

I agree, I got a scholarship for this year so really I just need it for my last semester- although the monthly stipend would be awesome! But the two year commitment is a big deal. So...who knows at this point!

Do your schools hold your classes until you get the scholarship? I was thinking of applying for this next year but my school does the "big drop" in August, if you hadn't paid yet. Do you just take out a loan then HRSA will pay that instead?

My school doesn't drop if we haven't paid. Last year I couldn't pay till January. I paid some late fees and couldn't see my transcripts or grades till I paid. Could go to collections too, luckily it didn't. So, long story but no they don't drop students who don't pay right away.

If yours does then take the loan and HRSA sends it back and pays it.

Hi everyone I am new to this forum but have read the post the last few days! I too recieved the "congratulations" email in the beginning of August and have been anxiously waiting for the welcome email and official award! Well I got it today!! Congrats to everyone and all those still waiting... if you are in final review and got the congrats email don't worry the official award is coming. Those under review think positive if an awardee doesn't accept the award or additional funding becomes avalible then they go through the under review and choose. I Was told all the applications were already initially reviewed and placed in a scoring type catagory...which makes sense if anyone looked at the post a while back about the link to the "grading" applications. There has been a few years additionl funding becomes avalible...so there is still a small chance! I know the customer service unconsistant infomation can be frustrating but know they really don't get too much info to help or answer the thousands of calls they get daily! ~smiles~

Has anyone heard anything new? I called on Wednesday night and the representative said that there are still funds available for this program and that it could very well go through October. Just looking back at those who have already received an award email, according to this blog, there should be more awards to come...Right?

@pbflash42 sounds like a reason to still be hopeful. Is that for people still under view or people who have already received an award letter but not the official letter yet? Since according to the the thread there are people still under review, people who have received official letters and those who received letters back in July and August but no official letter yet. Btw I'm still under review couldn't even get a loan for my program hoping for a miracle at this point and my program starts Monday :-/

i have until Oct 1st to hear that I received this or I have to Drop out of school. My nerves are shot. Im in the Under Review status. I hope to God I hear something soon and that I get accepted.

I'm still under review as well. She said that's still a good place to be. I hate the waiting! I'd rather just know one way or the other...
