The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.
i called and spoke to several people. i was told that they arent paying school until october or november. i told them that i was not concerned about when they are paying, its just that i need an official letter stating that they will be paying for me to go to school. hopefully they understood, but to be honest, she did not really seem 100% on what she was saying. she stated that she will have my award person email my financial aid counselor. they will be cc'ing me so i guess i will see what they say. i will let you know what happens from here. but i just kept getting told to keep checking the portal for updates, nothing factual.....
Hey, I just saw your friend request and accepted. You should be able to send messages now. But on the current topic, No I haven't heard anything new yet. I feel like the rest of you, impatient and eager to get the process finished. I am hoping that after tomorrow all those being selected will be notified, and then the final process can begin. At least that is my understanding. I have been under the impression that the notifications were the congratulations email we received, and that HRSA would notify all who were chosen by the end of the month. Then if any of those chosen who did not continue to meet the eligibility requirements or who did not get their paperwork in on time would then be disqualified and they would offer their scholarship to who ever is next on their list. I am assuming once all that is done they will send out final paperwork etc... If we don't hear anything tomorrow it wont be for a minute, we got the weekend and the holiday. If I do hear anything you all will be the first to know, and please if you hear anything post right away! I just want confirmation with paper and payment, and not just emails!!!
Okay, I know I am going to get blasted for this but... here it goes.
It is amazing how ungrateful some people seem on this thread. I know getting things finalized is a big step, but others are still hoping and praying to even get notice of being selected as a finalist. I know, at his late date, it is likely those of us still waiting will not get any good news and we would love to share in the "problem."
Congratulations to those who received the scholarship. Remember, you are blessed to have this opportunity to help you get one step closer to entering a world of service to those in need of your talents and compassion.

I am also the type to not believe something like this until it's absolutely 100% certain. It seems like others are kind of like that. Especially since they specifically said on the site when submitting the paperwork it is NOT guaranteed you will get it even if you get the email and submit the paperwork . And I do remember reading last years post where that did happen to someone. They got the email, submitted paperwork and didn't get it. So technically, no one is really safe yet. All we can do is wait though. School has started so I have less time to think about it now.Is anyone else starting to think we misunderstood the whole 'notification by August 31'?? Maybe the email we got earlier this month was our notification? It's just so hard-and I know you guys are feeling the same way- because I feel like I can't relax or feel confident that I am getting the scholarship for sure until they send out something else. Has anybody called them recently?
@jtboog2003 Ooooh man. I read most of last year's tread but don't remember reading about that happening to someone. How awful and heartbreaking for them. That thought has been in the back of my head since I submitted the paperwork: that something like that could happen. I don't know what the reason was in that case, but I hope that doesn't happen to any of us this year. I know we are all anxious and ready to celebrate upon getting final word. Hopefully we can do that soon- we are all in this together!

Maybe I didn't read any of the post that you feel are being ungrateful, so I can't say no one feels that way......but I will say this as one of those who are ecstatic at being selected yet anxious because we are awaiting the paperwork that makes it positively "real" to us...... we all (I think) recognize that they (HQ) have a BIG job getting all of this done and realize there will be glitches. but we also have the right to stress because we are trying to make sure all of our ducks are in the proper row so we can continue (or start) our classes as planned. I'm sorry you haven't gotten the email to be a finalist, but after looking at last years thread on the same problems I think we have a right to question what is going on and to be frustrated and nervous.
ok, I've stated my thoughts :)
good luck in your educational pursuits!

Yea thats where my fear stems from because I have seen it happen.
You are so right, we are ALL anxious and have every right to be. Every year there are issues with this thing. I wonder how long until they can get a really good system going.
I will say each year gets a bit more organized, but it's the same thing. Some people get emails and they start posting; others who didn't panic and call asking for their application status or to ask are there still awards being given out; the center gives the generic, "we are not done giving out awards yet and wait until the deadline" statement ; the deadline happens and they are behind schedule; we wait for final notification; then we must wait to actually receive the money (which they will send later then they first said)
Every year it's the same pattern. Every year you see panic from those wo got the email and those who didn't. There also always seem to be conflict between those who received the email and those who didn't. Just look at previous years. It's ridiculous, we are all grown.

My application says "Under Review" still. Anyone else? I never got an email or anything. Starting to really lose hope. For some reason I was really positive about this. Guess I'm actually going to have to pay all those loans back.
Anyone got a rich aunt I can swoon?
They have a loan repayment program you can apply to as well. After you graduate and get a job at one of their approved sites, they will pay back a big chunk of your student loans. Its the HRSA "Loan Repayment Program"-- and it's a great option for those that can't reapply for the scholarship if they are graduating soon.

@ rachinator25,
Can someone in your nursing dept. contact the financial aid for you? That's what I had to do when I couldn't register due to financial hold from summer session, I talked to our course coordinator who luckily was willing to do all the leg work for me. I just told her if I didn't register then I'll lose my enrollment status, which in terms may alter my qualification for the scholarship and Lord knows I can't afford to continue the program without that funding. She had to contact financial aid and cashier's office to pull some special strings just to let me register for the fall. They were pestering me for the "official letter" as well.
