I can't seem to find a thread on the latest round of Nurse Corps Applications, So I'll start. My initial point is more of me venting, but guess I'll ask - Should I even continue with my application? The new cycle and FAFSA wants us to use 2017 tax info, but in 2017, I was preparing for school and was employed full-time. Now that I'm collecting pennies and in dire need of assistance, it looks like my EFC is almost 8000. I can rarely work in reality. I'm really disheartened and confused as to why the FAFSA is set up like that.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm considering applying after I get a master's degree and just incorporating debt payments into my budget until I start school again. Do you know if the public health nurses that you work with, who've gotten the LRP are at the bachelor's or master's level? Could you maybe ask them?
The PHNs that have received the LRP are both Bachelor's and Master's prepared Nurses. Some have graduate degrees in MSN-Education and MPH.
@Tarzana25 Can you let us know the dates and times you saw progress in your application. Like when did they do a credit check and when did your status change on your application? Also what date did you find out if you were approved.
Hi everyone!
I took a look back at the 2018-2019 AllNurses HRSA NCSP forum and I have become VERY unsettled with what I read regarding the timing of acceptance. The university that I have been accepted to is very expensive and I will not be able to attend if I do not receive this scholarship. Though I believe I have a very good chance of being accepted into the program (EFC=0, first generation, and I KILLED on the essays, etc) I was reading that some people didn't know that they were accepted until SEPTEMBER 28th! That's bonkers considering most nursing schools start in August! My school's "withdraw date with 100% refund" is August 26th... does anyone have any input on this? Has anyone heard of people being accepted earlier? What happens if I am accepted (feeling confident!) but was not notified in time, does anyone think it will be possible to "post-pone" the start for the Spring semester, or even the fall?
Any additions to this topic helps! Reply-away, please!!

Hey Colleen VZ,
I think you have a great chance to get the scholarship, too. With that being said, I think you should start your program, and wait to see. While you're in there, talk to your financial aid office - sometimes they will work with student situations in terms of payment. This may include the amount that you'd be refunded if you don't get the scholarship (I'm sending good vibes your way, though. I hope you get it). Just because the 100% refund date is earlier than the date you'd be probably be finding out your application status, doesn't mean that you won't get SOME kind of refund after that date. I believe you can still get 75% back, which is still a lot. Who knows, once you start, the FA can probably give you other resources to keep you in. I know the process sucks, but I don't think you should give up. From what I've read over the year is that September is about average as to when people get their acceptance. The application packet lets you know that they will refund anything you have been forced to pay. Again, work with you FA office.
Good luck.

I never checked my application status. I just remember it took so long that I forgot about it and when I got the email that I was chosen it came as a total surprise to me. Sorry I can’t help answer that question. I got the email at the end of September if I remember correctly.

This is a need-based scholarship, therefore, the more you are in financial need the higher are your chances of becoming a recipient. I am first generation in my family going to college, single mother of a child with a disability, no family support and involved myself in lots of volunteer work. I felt that the most important factor is showing that you have a commitment in improving the lives of others by serving the underserved communities.
