2019-2020 HRSA Nursing Corps Scholarship

Updated:   Published

I can't seem to find a thread on the latest round of Nurse Corps Applications, So I'll start. My initial point is more of me venting, but guess I'll ask - Should I even continue with my application? The new cycle and FAFSA wants us to use 2017 tax info, but in 2017, I was preparing for school and was employed full-time. Now that I'm collecting pennies and in dire need of assistance, it looks like my EFC is almost 8000. I can rarely work in reality. I'm really disheartened and confused as to why the FAFSA is set up like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Same another denial. We’ll get there!

Hi everyone.

I too received a denial letter but I'm already in nursing school and will be done in May. This is one of many scholarships I've applied for and been rejected for and i think its because of my EFC score is greater than 0 (I'm married and am a former civilian federal worker).

Congrats to the folks who made it into the program. Your service to undeserved communities will be much appreciated. To those that didn't make it into the program, you will be a great nurse and are a wonderful student. Do not let this one program define you. Nursing school is HARD! It is literally the hardest thing I've ever done! I already have a Masters Degree in Environmental Science, labored a child, and pledged a damn sorority! And STILL.... NURSING SCHOOL!!! LOL This is hard work and will heighten your stress levels, do not let this one program denial add to that stress. You are more than capable and will be successful.

Thank you@ K Trauma RN. Congrats to those who made the cut!!!

I received a denial letter too but I am fine. I will be back in school January. I managed to get another scholarship that will help me cover my gap in funding for the remaining 3 semesters and even better, will have extra money refunded on my last semester too. Good luck you all!!!! xoxox

What scholarship is that?

I know the scholarship does not open for the 2020-2021 until a few months, but I wanted to know how competitive is it to get this scholarship? I see from the forum that financial need, commitment to underserved communities, grades, achievement are all factors; but likeee, I am curious about the odds. It also seems too good to be true

ALso, I am entering an MSN program for 1 year, but I also want to get my DNP .. is it possible that the Nurse Corps can cover me for 4 years or should i apply for NHSC..did anyone face this dilemma?

This last time there were over 7,000 applicants and only 200 something of us were chosen. Not sure if that helps

It is SO competitive and so many people apply vs spots even highly qualified don't get spots. I had a 4.0, am EFC of 0, amazing references, good essays, history of community service and come from an underprivileged background. I still didn't get a spot.
