2019-2020 HRSA Nursing Corps Scholarship

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

I can't seem to find a thread on the latest round of Nurse Corps Applications, So I'll start. My initial point is more of me venting, but guess I'll ask - Should I even continue with my application? The new cycle and FAFSA wants us to use 2017 tax info, but in 2017, I was preparing for school and was employed full-time. Now that I'm collecting pennies and in dire need of assistance, it looks like my EFC is almost 8000. I can rarely work in reality. I'm really disheartened and confused as to why the FAFSA is set up like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

It seems like everyone who has received finalist emails are BSNs and above, I'm sure ADNs aren't a priority. I start my ADN program this fall, I applied for the scholarship with a 3.82 GPA, EFC: 0, but I don't think I have as much experience working with underserved communities as the finalists. I have lived in underserved communities my whole life, and I have volunteered a decent amount but nothing extraordinary. I'm mentally prepared to take these student loans to the chin lol but it would be nice to get a scholarship. I think they might wait until the end to give some scholarships to ADNs. Congratulations to the finalists, and good luck to everyone in their programs.

The last time I got this scholarship (2013-2014) I was going for my ADN and was picked in the first round. Now I'm heading into my MSN and am not a finalist, and not terribly hopeful. From what I understand, they make no distinction between BSN and ADN, as long as you're going for RN.

It's a hard scholarship to get for anyone. You certainly deserve the scholarship every bit as much as a BSN student! Good luck!

Please don’t lose hope. People received emails in late September last year. I doubt they’re prioritizing BSN vs ADN. We will all be RNs. Maybe BSNs need more help due to the cost of 4 year schools.

Anyone know how much the ORC payment usually is?

Still “under review” EFC 0 but cumulative GPA a little low (3.13 ?) My MSN GPA couldn’t be used bc it was in the middle of the semester when I applied. Still keeping hope alive!

Has any ADN program student received a finalist email yet? I have lots of volunteer history within the underserved population, along with a great gpa (3.8), still very hopeful I get an email these funds would really help me.

Are they selected finalist with the highest GPA’s first? That’s what it seems like.

I don't believe so my GPA was only 3.3 and I received my finalist email on 7/31

My GPA isn’t that high at a 3.2. I’ve never had anything below a 3.4, including my first semester in the nursing program. My second semester was tough and knocked me down a bit though.

Okay! Yeah this is building up my anxiety. I think need a week from worrying about this scholarship ? lol

I need to know! Lol

I don't think so, I have a 4.0 and didn't get an email.

Page 6 of Program Guidance says, "The ORC is a single annual payment provided directly to each Nurse Corps SP participant to assist in covering the cost of books, clinical supplies/instruments, and uniforms. The payment is based on information obtained directly from the institution regarding the approximate cost of these items and is determined independently for participants."

When awarded (?!!!), I would contact your program to find out how much ORC is typically disbursed since cost of books and clinical supplies etc. may vary greatly across programs.
