Hello all,
I am about to start a 3 year HPRP contract in Michigan and was just wondering the frequency of urine/blood testing as you progress through the program? Does it go down after every year to the date you started? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

I can't account for Michigan, but in Texas everyone in the program gets drug tested 2-3 times a month. The frequency does not change for the duration of the program. I have been hair follicle tested once. I have never had a blood test. I believe most recovery programs will test for whatever substance landed you in the program. If its alcohol, expect to take a few PETH tests, if it's pills or other narcotics it's gonna be regular urine tests. I am 2 years and 4 months into my 3 year contract.

So I started HPRP in Michigan in feb 2020 - worst program I’ve ever seen In my life. I tried obtaining the firm that tried to sue them for the INANE fees and costs they charge. There biased opinions and ridiculous requirements. They only want your money. I had to select a HPRP psychiatrist who was also an addictionist. Well do you know how many actual exist? Not that many on my end of town. Closest one an hour and 45 minutes away. Or I could pay for two separate evaluations in the time I could not work because I had no safety to practice. The next closest one was over 3 hours away and wanted 685$. The other 300$. Literally SCAM! So of course this guys going to say ya I got a problem. Because he’s affiliated and you have to pay from pocket. Also his social worker gets a bite. Her group so he’s gonna make BIG BUCKS OFF you for 3 years and most likely longer because your drug tested weekly with a special test at least once or twice a month a blood or hair test. So YOUR PETH TESR BI WEEKLY IF YOU TEST POSITIVE WEEKLY UNTIL NEGATIVE. Plus your urine test. wo drug testing is a grand a month easy. How are you surviving I was fired over ***! Then put without any representation in a room told I had to make this call or I WOULD GET FIRED. I got fired anyway. I never would have called. I had no idea or had never heard of HPRP. I was bullied everytime I spoke to my caseworker license threatened. They did not care itt was COVID. Yet I had to figure this *** out! You barely have time to breathe -the waiting at drug testing facilities day after day was obnoxious. The special test they send you where ever. My “group” told me to select my “drug” of choice. Uh I got an OWI for 17ng of THC in my system. because I swerved (exhusband and I were fighting) we were on vacation so I was not even in the wrong for “enjoying” THC. Literally they might as well ask you to fold a fitted sheet in a sobriety test-it’s like Pat your head and rub your belly. 99/% of officers administered them incorrectly so they have no validity . you are allowed to refuse but not blood. Then they drug test me at work while I’m on court ordered probation. I call every morning to see if I get called, I was called 1.7.2020. OK I get a random suspicion test too. Uh okay. But the employee health nurse never had me sign did not bag and seal it like he is famous for reminding us to watch. Then 8 days later calls me down to sign the slip. He’s backdated the form. I had my second test results back which were observed. Fine I didn’t think anything really. The next day I’m told I’m positive for THC amphetamines and methamphetamines metabolites.
@Laura RNHow often are you testing now that you are past the two year mark?

Hprp here. Testing does not decrease in the 3 years. Blood monthly for peth. Hair every 90 days and urine 1 to 2 x week. Runs $500 a month plus your group and individual therapy is another $300 month.
@Bravo-rn47 oh okay I was told by my case manager that as long as there are no positive tests or extensions your testing will go down each year to the exact date. I’ve talked to people who have been in it for a 1/2 years and they said it does go down. Maybe different for everyone
Oh no! Ya’ll I had got put in just before Covid! So this was a NIGHTMARE! You have no idea. I also was negative for drugs in admission- another RN failed to have integrity. Backdated a the drug test CCF and used out friendship to his advantage. That drug test came back positive, I was on probation and had been selected for random observation testing the same day THANKFULLY. (For myself doesn’t seem to matter to anyone else) I could not get these results until March because my officer was pregnant and with Covid she was not around anyone. So the would not release them- what are the freakin odds- I subsequently lost my job after being told HPRP would save it. Then of course no job and I was repeatedly kicked backwards 90 days for missing testing due to inability to pay not for unwilling to participate. HPRP does not care about recovery but about padding their pockets. I am in the administration hearing NOW. YES! THEY HAVE SCREWED MY CASE SO BADLY. I am TRYIN To PAVE A ROAD FOR EVERY NURSE RIGHT NOW. They have placed on the internet My SUD. This is a violation of CFR 42 part 2. No they are not a federal payer but they must follow the law in that the forms must be updated with the consent of who it’s being released too. Please see SAMSHA. The admin judge and ADA HAVE PUT IN WRITING THE PUBLIC HEALTH CODE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A FEDERAL LAW UPDATED AFTER I SIGNED THESE ! which the law states previous signed releases are appealed. That am SUD IS TO Be Discussed only in a judges chambers with those who have written consent. I have provided nobody in this hearing consent . Not the ADA NOT The judge not anyone who has testified. They are trying to have my psychiatrist testify against me. What! OBJECTION! PRIVILEGED! I am ALL ON MY OWN here guys no attorney no support! Just me! So PRAY! Cuz everyone of you I think of when I’m doing this. My family won’t speak to me- I can’t get a job- my rights have been violated and so will yours- Google does not have my consent. In fact no consent exists according to the law- I went to catholic charities today and they were standing there with their mouths open in disbelief. The form I signed today said exactly what I’m saying to you on it! The HPRP forms I signed in 2020 DO NOT. The forms are now only good for 1 year not 4.
They have not one complaint from a patient or on my practice of nursing I. 13 years. But on my personal life a DUI which I faced a judge for already completed probation successfully-that’s what a good citizen does. I’m a human I make mistakes- I had marijuana In system 3 months before it was “legal” 17 ng/ml at that and 33 ng/ml cooh so hit the DOT essay on the head! 1 billionionth of a gram less they might not have even charged me. I was on prescribed Xanax for losing 5 babies and going thru a divorce in counseling for 18 months. I don’t even want to go into the terror I was living in with my exhusband. But they used this against me to justify reasonable suspicion testing. But never gave me the complaints prior to testing so the handwritten back dated complaints were made to “fit” cooperative drowsy and not making eye contact, talking fast. I was talking fast because I was drinking coffee, and the Xanax might have made me the other 3? I can’t make this *** up. I just am ready to let this go- but I want nobody to have to go thru this ever again- it’s Wrong. This nurse “forgot my signature” YOU *** you stalked me 8 days later lied to me and they already had my results! One of the HR forms they forgot to change the dates. I tell Nurses make the BEST investigators. Don’t tell me to find errors- we are required more evidence to put an IV in a human than to put some one in jail. It’s amazing! I have had a crash course In attorney! Most are incompetent and I bring more to the table than they would ever think too. I was thrown into jail for contempt for pointing out facts in a case. The judge apparently didn’t like it- I did 10 days I am not proud of but I am- I’ve been places I would have never been had it not been for this “mistake” The nurse who took the life of the patient die far LESS damage then this RN has done to me!

I have just joined HPRP for diversion. I signed my contract yesterday but drank the night before. They said I have to log into vault health tomorrow to see if I’m selected. I’m nervous the alcohol will show up but I honestly only thought I would be tested for the meds I consumed and not alcohol.
Had anyone been positive for alcohol for their first test? And if so was it punitive? I haven’t had any test but thinking tomorrow I will be scheduled for something.
So chances are if you are selected it won’t be for a special test which is a peth test. Alcohol- shows in this test for several weeks. It’s not exactly a proven test. Neither is an ETG. but nonetheless. if you are selected for a PETH test which is a blood draw- then take the test. Make a report to your case worker. Of your last consumption was prior to signing. Most likely this is NOT going to happen. You will get the most expensive urine test first. If you are working. But honestly I wish you all the luck in the world. This program is BS. It’s so expensive and they DO NOT CARE ABOUT your recovery. They want your money. Do not drink- 4 weeks they get a positive you will do a PETH and URINE weekly. IT SO EXPENSIVE. I had a family event and I DO NOT DRINK. but in this instance not to drink the wine was considered rude (Italian) and my family did not want me drawing attention to my “problem” so I drank 1 glass. Openly admitted it and was punished severely. I don’t think they understand people outside of this program don’t get it. Ya I probably could have left, but I’m not embarrassing my family if I didn’t have too. Drawing attention to myself. If your not pregnant which people knew my “issues” there too. So not like I could have played it off. Your expected to have the wine. I did not hide it. I had them use being tapered off medication as a bad thing even after my psychiatrist stated it’s a requirement for the med. yes they will have your psychiatrist testify AGAINST YOU. Which was fun, because he never talked to me about substance abuse in the time I saw him. Only PTSD. never one time did he ask nor my social worker, nor my case worker how I was managing. As two of my very good friends are Peer support specialists they said it’s not a treatment program if your not openly talking about your using. I was kicked out of group therapy for not picking a drug of choice. I was told to just pick one. I refused. The RN who did a reasonable suspicion drug test at work “forgot my signature” and left it on the counter with 10 other bagged urines. My probation drug test the same day that was observed came back negative. With a therapeutic value for benzodiazepines. The work one came back with 3 substances. I was asked to sign for the test 8 days later, by this RN. He backdated it. I still have my donor copy. I suggest you learn your rights for drug testing. As some of these places you can test at violate your rights. One tried to remove me from my sample. It is to be in your sight until it is sealed in the BOX and BAG. Then you know it’s not tampered with. I reported this RN to LARA. They did nothing, I have lost my license for personal life mistakes. Not one patient related issue. I’m extremely competent. Well educated with a Bachelors from Purdue. not even a patient complaint in my career, never a patient had asked for a switch in caregivers. Yet this RN has zero integrity and did not have to answer for ruining my career. He still works at the VA racking up a pension, TSP, 5 weeks vacation and 4 hours of SL per pay. Not to mention the best health dental and Vision options. Not to mention the many other perks of being a government employee. I’ve never even been written up. Been in trouble in my life. But had 17ng of marijuana in my system and got pulled over and got an OWI. Such ***. I told HPRP to go to hell after 8 months. It was the pandemic and I could not get a job. My mother was going bankrupt from the testing bills. The stress was unbearable. I miss being a nurse. But in no way in hell was I going to be able to do 3 years+ because they just kept starting the clock over when I could not pay for something. With no job which I got hired anywhere as long as I did not mention HPRP. This program is violating the privacy laws and IM GOING AFTER THE license board, district attorney and state board of nursing. No way in hell should our health info be on the internet! CFR 42 part 2. There consent is BOGUS and the law updated 8-14-2020
They won’t give you a peth first off because you just signed your contract. They usually start the peth draws once you start working. They will test you for everything, not just your past drug choice. If not working, expect a test every 2 weeks or so. If you are working it will be peth/hair/urine 2 x a week for the first 6 months to start. Welcome to micromanaging of your life!
