HPRP Michigan

Published

Hello all,

I am about to start a 3 year HPRP contract in Michigan and was just wondering the frequency of urine/blood testing as you progress through the program? Does it go down after every year to the date you started? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

Keep this in mind forever.  If you drink alcohol, literally, one big swig of beer, not even half of the can, it will show in your urine for 5 days based on the tests they do (not 12 hours, not 1 day, not 2 days) but 5 days, and if you drink 2 big swigs of beer (1/4th of a can) you might even test positive for 6 days, so dude, give it up.  There is ZERO chances of drinking alcohol in this program without getting caught.   Also, the hair test?  Yes, alcohol can and will be detected hair tests go back 3 months.  Yes, the test in the hair for alcohol is not perfect, but you don't want to go through the stress of trying to prove why there would even be a trace of alcohol in your hair.  It's painful.

Last thing, the good ole 4 day Holiday coming up where you know there is a Friday, Sat, Sun, Monday Holiday, for example, Christmas and you call in early Thursday morning and it states you don't have to test, and now you know the soonest you could be tested would be Tuesday due to the long weekend?  Don't do it.  It's been tried, and they are foaming at the mouth to test you Tuesday morning and you will get burned.  Not trying to scare you, but just keeping it real.  You can't drink any alcohol EVER in this program, or your license will be gone for good.  If you simply do not drink alcohol in this program, your license will be around and intact for good.  Simple as that.

Hello,

I am in the beginning of my DUI nightmare.  I am going to court on Thursday to see what the judge says..... What was the process for the HPRP? Did you self report?

Self report is a loose term because you can wait, but will probably get contacted by them regardless. I am so sorry, it is quite the experience. I can answer any questions you have from my 3 years in hprp nightmare.

Thanks for responding.....DUI 8/22

I was just wondering how the DUI process, will go.  Any one been through this? I guess after I find out what the judge says tomorrow, I will go from there.  Self report loose term? Means they will find out anyway (right).

I know it’s expensive, but hiring a good lawyer can seriously make all the difference. I got a DWI with a possession change. Lawyer got me pre-trial diversion for the possession and said if I completed it, they would dismiss the DWI. Take out a loan if you have too and expect to pay 7500-10k. As for the board, I would wait to report until you get some knowledge on how your case is going to go. Reporting now versus in a month or two is going to make absolutely no difference to them.

Yes! If is not on your record the board should not see it. Do not tell anyone at work or managers obviously. I know people that only got contacted from board when they renewed license and they run the background check at that time.

Was wondering what initial tests you had the first few months in Michigan? I'll be going in for alcohol and when I start the program I will have not had anything to drink for a month so I would think I'd be fine on a PETH test. Do they do an EtG hair sample test when you first started? Thanks so much

So it depends on the panel. Initially the hair test is a 5 panel and they usually do not do it until you are in 90 days. They can't penalize you for anything you did prior to the first day in the program. The lovely 13 hair panel does have etg I believe. Hope that helps!

I had read in other people's posts that day one they did a hair test. Do you think that is possible? Thanks for your input.

I have had about 12 people in my group. I never have heard anyone say that. Actually usually people with only alcohol as DOC have never had a hair test. There would be no reason to check for past use, when you wouldn't be in hprp if you didn't have past use proven. If you are positive for anything ever, the punishment is off work and extension to your contract. There wouldn't be any reason to do a hair test first day because they can't extend you for past drug use. However, if you deny deny deny any and all substances and they do not believe you. Then I could see doing a hair test. If *** shows , then you would get increased testing, expensive.
what is the real concern? I will answer you best I can. Spit it out.
