Hi everyone!

So I currently live in Los Angeles, CA and as many of you know the current job market here for a new grad LVN stinks so bad I need to move to another state.

At this point I am willing to relocate anywhere in the US!!! and have finally convinced the boyfriend that this needs to happen for a chance to get a job with minimal experience.

So I am super interested in finding out how your state/area is doing when it comes to hiring NEWGRAD LPNs/LVNs?

How long did it take you to find a job once you began applying?

How long ago was that? What have you heard from new grads in your area?

What's the pay like? (not a big deal since I know cost of living makes up for lower wages for the most part)

And if you have any experience with the reciprocity of the license to your state any tips about how long it took to get processed that helps as well.

Any info or tips will help!!!

Thank you

--Desperate for a chance--

Hi I am brand new to this site, I live in Massachusetts and it is very difficult to find jobs for LPN's. I have been licensed since 2000, and all of my working experience has been in medical offices. I have worked my first 8 years in adult medicine with a specialty in cardiology, then the remainder in pediatrics (along with some misc. jobs on the side). Once you leave a Dr. office it is very hard to get back in, and no nursing homes will hire without experience, and no hospitals in my area are hiring LPN's.

It's been difficult to find work myself, I went back to school for Human Service's and will be graduating in May 2014 hoping to find work in behavioral health, no luck so far.

I wish you well in your search.

Keep us posted!

Carrie

I live local, SoCal area, been an LVN since '09, got my job 2mos after I passed my test. As expected on the last place I applied at. But now, 5years later I am still at the same facility and also work a 2nd job at Kaiser Permanente, and have become part of management on my primary job.

We are looking for LVNs, and are new grad friendly, it is also a good place to be in as it is considered acute experience considering it is an inpatient setting.

LA is not bad, just gotta look. Pay is not too bad either.

Hi everyone thank you so much for your responses! Such helpful information!!:cat:

@BigG-LVN: Your facility sounds like a dream come true! If at any point you didn't mind sharing your facilities info with me, that would be so greatly appreciated. And you are right the opportunities are out there if you look, but the issue I have been having is that I get to the interview everything goes splendidly, "we will definitely call you on such and such"...call never comes....call back and I am told that someone with the golden one year exp. came and got the job and that they are sorry blah blah blah. Thank you ahead of time for any future info!

I made

$28-$30/hr in Washington state.

$15-$17/hr in Atlanta, $19/Homecare.

$20/hr Michigan.

$15-$17/ht San Diego.

Please if you wouldn't mind sharing where we could submit a resume that would be great!!

I am also a new grad LVN in SoCal, (long beach area) trying very hard to get my foot in the door somewhere! I would appreciate any leads you can provide. TIA

Question, would a new grad stand out speaking spanish and/or computer charting experience?

How is the market in TN?

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

If you spoke Spanish it would be easy to get a job in the valley here in TX. Since pretty much everyone there speaks it as a first or second language.

So I guess Tx is for me being that I'm Hispanic and I speak & write very well....thanks mom and dad for being Hispanic parent arents lolo.

Yes, you're a special one if you have family that speaks spanish :)

They do have a course for medical spanish.

I've also read in a nurse recruiter article, that a new grad having strong critical thinking skills is a plus as well as if you know how to repair computers. (Don't ask me. That's what I read in the article. Lol)

Also, I've read too that Research is a big thing these days with evidence-based practice so if you worked on any research, wrote a thesis, published any articles, etc., its a plus too to stand out.

Would it be wise for a lvn student to look into shadow work while in school?

I live in Pa not far from Philadelphia and the job market for new grads are great. I got a job with an agency less than a week after passing my boards. I'm making $25-$30 an hr.

I'm also in PA, about 2 hours away from Philly. There are plenty of jobs for LPNs here, just not in hospitals.
