Hi everyone!

So I currently live in Los Angeles, CA and as many of you know the current job market here for a new grad LVN stinks so bad I need to move to another state.

At this point I am willing to relocate anywhere in the US!!! and have finally convinced the boyfriend that this needs to happen for a chance to get a job with minimal experience.

So I am super interested in finding out how your state/area is doing when it comes to hiring NEWGRAD LPNs/LVNs?

How long did it take you to find a job once you began applying?

How long ago was that? What have you heard from new grads in your area?

What's the pay like? (not a big deal since I know cost of living makes up for lower wages for the most part)

And if you have any experience with the reciprocity of the license to your state any tips about how long it took to get processed that helps as well.

Any info or tips will help!!!

Thank you

Do you mind giving me some ideas about some possible areas in Texas might be. Since indeed and craigslist are hard to decipher sometimes when it comes to reading the current market.

San Antonio, Corpus Christi & if you're fluent in Spanish the valley.

Thanks again! I will definitely look at all three areas ;) Hopefully something pans out

I live in SoCal and every week I get two or three fliers in the mail from registries looking for VN's. Granted, the majority of clients are going to be pediatric vents. But, a job is a job, and any experience is good experience.

Hi CaliBoy760

At this point I would welcome a pediatric vent if it meant getting a job!!

Sadly all of the posting, listings, and emails I have looked at require at least one to two years of pediatric experience or vent experience. I sadly do not posses either. Now I do understand a lot of jobs I can try to use other experiences and volunteering. But to me it came across as far fetched in those ped vent scenarios. If you don't mind giving me a few of those registries' info to try my luck I would be most appreciative.

I'm in Southeastern Kentucky, about 45 miles south of Lexington. I got my first LPN job working in long term care a week and a half after passing my NCLEX back in February. It was my first interview also.

OMG that is CRAZY!!! LOL

CONGRATULATIONS on the job!!:)

Kentucky is definitely added to my possibility list!!!

Most of my graduate PN's had jobs before they even took boards, here in Central Virginia. Several of the 2012 graduates have moved on to MD offices. Starting pay is about $18/hr for new grads, but before you choke know that the cost of living is also low....you can get a nice 2BR apt. for $600/month.

I'm from louisville kentucky. Large hospitals here just started hiring LPN's and are starting "team nursing" which has opened up hundreds of new positions. People are leaving LTC to fill some of those positions so there are openings everywhere.

Florida here, my entire class had jobs before our licenses even came in the mail. Tons of LPN jobs in PDN/LTC for new grads. A local LPN program uses my program for their peds rotation and still can't recruit enough help to get shifts covered. I work 48-60 hours a week and my agency is always trying to get me to work more.

I know there is a lot of controversy with new grads and PDN, but it was a great fit for me and I had the right to turn down any case that I felt was beyond my abilities (without repercussion) as well as the opportunity to work alongside other nurses in medical foster homes. In private home cases, I could orient as long as I needed to feel comfortable.

I hope you can find someplace but southwest Ohio isn't it, for sure. There are 4 schools in the Cincinnati area that each pump out 4 classes of LPNs per year. The nursing market here for LPNs is saturated, with most of the open positions being in LTC because the hospitals here hire very few, if any, LPNs.

Good luck on your search!

I live in Austin and there's plenty of LVN positions. I put my resume up on a job search engine and had 2 emails in 3 days (1 within 24 hrs) interviewed for 1 and got it. Of course, it's coming up on graduation time so the market will be flooded with new grads in the next couple of months. Good luck and keep at it, you'll get something. :)
