We all know that nursing is tough on students. But putting a hold on dating is something that many cannot commit to.

My dating life was on hold before and since graduating nursing school lol. It's like, where do you meet decent people nowadays?! Sheesh. :)

I find for myself personally it is very difficult to keep a relationship going especially during school. In a program such as Nursing it is very difficult to find time to spend with your boyfriend/girlfriend, and can cause a lot of stress in the relationship. As for myself, I have told myself that if I were to get into a relationship, it would have to be with another nursing student, since we would have the same goals and understanding that nursing is a large priority in each others lives.

It can work however, but the other person not in the nursing program should have patience and be as supportive as they possibly can. Though I find that nowadays if you aren't married (or even if you are) that it can be difficult, but if you decide to really work at it, the relationship should work.

I happened to meet (well, re-meet, we went to high school together) my current boyfriend about 2 months prior to starting nursing school last summer. I had gotten used to a pretty lax schedule, with only my 9-5 job in the picture at the time. I mentioned several times on our first couple of dates, "In a few months, I'm going to be working full time and going to nursing school. I have no idea what that's going to be like". However, despite the hectic schedule, we've grown quite close, and just have to be more intentional about setting aside time together than some other couples might. I think it helps that's he's really attracted to my ambition and my work ethic, so he fully supports when I just need time for school from time to time. Sometimes he even looks out for me when I kind of want to blow-off study time, and he'll say "Well, you have that big test next week, just power through!" We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary, and things are going really well. Although, he's already made one "deal" to balance things out once I'm done. He's a teacher, who has summers off, so he's told me I need to become a school nurse so we can have summers off together to make up for lost time :loveya: It may not be for everyone, but if you meet someone great, and you both know the reality of your hectic and demanding schedule and are willing to work with it, a healthy dating relationship is possible.

I told the girl that I am dating that once I start nursing school, I will be very busy. We made concessions such as I told her that I would hang out with her but I may have to do some homework or study, in which she says she is cool with. She has her bachelors in Psychology so she has an understanding of studying and college life which helps.

I met my husband during nursing school. He knew up front that it may be difficult to get together and do things due to my clinicals and demanding schedule. However, we made it work. He was a farmer and was always busy as well. So if we wanted to see each other I had to go see him, he lived an hour away. So I would load up whatever study material i had and go wherever he was driving the tractor at and ride with him while talking and studying. It worked out well for both school and our relationship. We got engaged a year after we met, and married after I graduated nursing school. It is tough but doable when you have someone who understands your goals and is willing to make compromises!

what dating life!... as a single dad of 3 children plus a full time nursing career, and house work who has time to date?...it's not easy therefore, i guess i'll remain single until my youngest goes to college :uhoh21:

I also met my husband during nursing school as well as his military deployment several times throughout. It's not impossible to date and have a life during nursing school, just have to manage time extremely well and have mental strength and life goals and priorities straight before beginning a relationship. Same goes for those with children, my hat goes off to all the single moms who are working and going through nursing school with kids.

Don't forget the single dads who work full-time and go through nursing school with kids. wave.gif.f76ccbc7287c56e63c3d7e6d800ab6c

Well I had to marry my college for 2 years. Now I am out of school and getting a divorce. I am happy about it though, long time coming and being a nurse affords me the ability to take care of myself.

What is this "dating life" you speak of?

I barely have enough time to lay around on the couch all night on my nights off...

Seriously, I know that if I want any sort of "life" outside of work and school (online RN-to-BSN) I will have to switch to day shift.

I am curious, is there anyone who nursing ambitions caused divorce or breakups? I'm married, but just doing prereqs was...to put it nicely...difficult and stressful! I dont see how we will survive me going to nursing school.
