I don't start my clinicals until Spring 2017, but I'm super curious as to how clinicals will be like? How long were you in the observation role? How much does your preceptor let you do? At what point did you actually see and diagnose your own patients independently? My first clinical rotation is advanced health assessment, which is only 50 hours. However, I will specify to my preceptor if possible, I'd love to be exposed to more.
Just curious as to how your experience is going or have gone, no matter what semester.
thanks!

I'm curious to know also. I'd love to hear of people's clinical experiences as I start mine in January. Did any of you carry any books or pocket guides? Can you recommend any? What to expect in the first clinical experience, especially in acute care as I'll be doing inpatient critical care.

My first 40-hour clinical was in an ED, and I basically just assessed patients in my own little world without having any input to the treatment team. After that, I was reviewing histories, assessing, examining, diagnosing and recommending treatment independently. The preceptor made all the treatment decisions, but based on my input. Every preceptor is a little different as to whether they observe you sometimes, all the time, never . . . the only thing that they all shared in common was that they all want you to do the documentation! (ha ha)

Haha, I can totally see that. Thanks!
What NP route did/are you taking?

I just finished my FNP... for me, Adult and Family were pretty much independent. OB-GYN, there was no way I was going to be independent with my OB patients and the GYN I needed some assistance (I'm a male). For pediatrics... it was 50/50.
I used epocrites to start off on my tablet, but later switched to dynamed through my school via my laptop.
