Howard CC Evening/Weekend Fall 2010

Published

Hi everyone! Just got accepted to Howard Community College's eve/weekend program. Anyone else attending?

Hello! You must have been selected from the first lottery? I am in the 2nd lottery because I am what they call a "spring finisher" since I am currently taking Chemisty. I just submitted my application today and am really hoping I get lucky enough to to admitted for the Fall 2010 evening program. I will most likely be waitlisted though. :-( Oh well, Ill just have to be patient. Ill be especially interested to see updates from you on how it goes since I will be in the evening program as well (if not this year, next year!)

ETA: I also meant to ask you dcgrrrl if this was your first time applying or were ever waitlisted before?

Specializes in LTC.

I attended last year and graduated with my lpn. I passed nclex the first time. I LOVED the program. The staff is wonderful. I can't wait to start the rn program next spring. HCC is the best!

Hi NurseLove,

Congratulations on graduating with your LPN! Were you able to find a job afterwards? Ive been hearing it can be a bit difficult to find a job in this economy. I want my RN but was thinking about going for an LPN since there was no waitlist but ended up deciding to wait for the RN. What made you decide to become an LPN first?

I was waitlisted for Fall 2009. Believe me---the time went by fast! I wish you luck. Most of the folks I know who were waitlisted had to wait one semester. I would probably gotten in Spring 2010 but I comitted to the Evening/Weekend program that's only offered in the Fall. Keep me posted!

Congratulations on your acceptance! I graduated with my ADN May 2009. The program is very rigorous, so you will need to put your social life on hold for the next 2 years. I don't want to discourage you but less than half of my originating starting class finished in May 2009. There is a book called "Test Success" that is on the recommended list. I highly encourage you to get it now and start reading it. It will help you to understand how the course tests questions are set up. After you get through your first semester, get a good NCLEX prep book and go through the questions that correlate with what you are studying at the time. That will really help you on the exams and when it comes time for you to take NCLEX.

I see...well that time has certainly been going by pretty quickly for me while just working on these prerequisites so hopefully if I am waitlisted, it will go by quickly as well. I sent an e-mail to the allied health department asking if they had any new information on the waitlist, like how long it might be, since they had all the applications in but they said they were still processing them and Iw ould find out if i was offered a seat or get a waitlist number in late May. So, that isn't too long!

Also, thanks for the message you sent! Apparently I can't respond until I have made at least 15 posts, which is a bit silly in my opinion! However, I would LOVE to hear about your experiences getting ready for the program, the orientation, the classes, any little tidbits you feel like sharing about how it's going I am all ears! It would be cool to hear since you are in the evening program, which is what I have applied for. Do you know what the current hours are for the program? I believe it is twice during the week and then clinicals on weekends? Have you been told the actual times yet?

I bet you are getting excited after this long wait you've had. How is A and P going?

Hey Tag2007,

I PM'd you again!:)

Hey dcgrrl...how is it going? Have you gone to orientation yet?!

Hey dcgrrl...how is it going? Have you gone to orientation yet?!

I sent you a pm.

i am attending the fall /evening program too. i got accepted my first time applying and am out of county. i can't wait to start with the hands on stuff. i am so done with prereqs!! have you heard anything about getting fitted for the uniforms? i thought they mentioned it at the first orientation. thanks!!

I thought I missed the uniform fitting so I went ahead and ordered my uniforms online about two weeks ago. My stuff is on backorder and I won't be getting it until some time next week. I got a little worried when I didn't hear anything since they stated the deadline to place uniform orders for Fall 2010 was July 5th. Did you get the letter they said they would sending out to us by the 1st of July? I called last Thursday and they stated they hadn't sent anything out yet.
