I used to take the powerpoints, sit them next to my open book and read the sections in the book at least once for context. Then I solely studied from my powerpoints because that's all my exams were on. I never made flashcards because that does not work for me. I told my notes like a story, I needed the big picture. I studied my notes in order, reviewed them in order -- the whole chapter, EVERYDAY! A day or two before the test I had someone quiz me from my notes and explain how so and so worked, detail for detail like a story. If I could...success! Know, EVERYTHING!
I got A's in both A&P 1&2.
Good luck.
I read the chapters b4 the lectures and have an understanding of what the topic is about. Once I do go the lectures I have questions already prepared. Also, READ the chapters daily. I am a visual person so Youtube and other AP websites has helped me with some great videos that explain anything that you may be confused about. I have passed my AP 1 class with an A simply by understanding, not only memorization.
Thanks Amy. I have been doing something simliar and we have our second exam next week. I just keep hoping she doesnt throw something else outside the powerpoint on our exam like my last Professor did.
I got over 100% with the extra credit on the first exam. I love the extra credit, it really helps. This week Im doing a 10 point extra credit assignment to help me boost my quiz scores.
Great job Anne! Yes, I liked her lecture exams because of the over 100% factor, and that's a good buffer because of the lab exams!
I don't think she will ever give you anything not talked about. She never did to us, so you should be safe.
Keep up the good work, and remember, "it will all be over soon.":yeah:
Thank you so much--great advice! I am preparing for A & P I in the fall and because I'm so nervous, I've book and have been studying the book. I also called the professor and requested the syllabus. He said it wasn't ready, but he emailed me the test content for the the 5 exams. They are pages of "explain and describe" between 79 and 90 chapter objectives. I am reading as much as I can right now and trying to make application.
However, per your suggestions, I believe I will adding flash cards and the putting things together like a story. Great tips! I'll have to wait until school starts to determine lecture and testing styles. If I can get an "A" in this class, my GPA for courses reviewed will be a 3.6 for my spring nursing application. I need it!!
See you round!
When I took A&P 1 & 2 I found that I was able to study the material better when I took notes from the text and from the lecture and put them together so I had a full understanding of the material. If my notes from lecture were incomplete and the text didn't help I often went to online sites to get the full explaination. I lived, breathed and ate A&P for two semesters studying from 3-6 hours a day. I also formed study groups before class started and that helped a lot. I ended up with A's for both courses. Good luck and stay determined.:)
My instructors made up a study guide where we could take notes and also answer questions on quizzes. For my A&P classes, I focused on the study guide and used the text as a reference book. Make sure you understand all the info in the lectures. If there is a point you don't get, look it up on the internet, maybe find a youtube video on the topic.
this is how my professor does things and i too haven't been able to figure a way to study. any help is appreciated!! :redpinkhe
classes monday and wednesday, tests on wednesdays. monday, following a test, my professor will begin the new material. she hands out photocopies of the chapter (super small font, front and back, 6-8 pages per chapter). she reads these notes verbatim, giving very little explanation. wednesday is the same, completing chapter 2. monday we complete chapter 3, plus our professor will read aloud the entire test (without answers) for us to audio tape. the test is given the following class day (wednesday).
the problem i ran into is that these tests are 50 short essay answers, no multiple choices. the amount of information that we must know in order to write a short essay answer is mind boggling. this wouldn't be as much of a problem if our tests were multiple choices and i could pick out key words and narrow down the answer choices.
any suggestions on how best to study for these type tests when we only have one day between finishing the lecture and test day? so much information, so little time to memorize. not to mention that we don't get alot of explanation of how things work and we have to figure this out on our own.
thanks!!

I'm taking A&P2 this summer and I am having a killer time trying to nail down a study technique!
