How soon should I go from LPN pay to RN pay

When I got interviewed at my current job I was told that I would go from x amount of money to x amount of money. This is a 10 dollar an hour raise in pay for just becoming a RN and have LPN experience. Well I got my RN and it seems as though my employers are dragging their feet. I feel as though since I now have a new role I should be compensated as such. I presented my paper work to HR and was told my new rate would have to be approved by the DON. I called the DON but she has not returned my phone calls. I plan on going in person tomorrow to make sure this is taken care of.

I'm wondering if I should be less aggressive or just have more patience with this process. How long does it normally take for them to make this change?

Are you working as an RN there yet?

Even after I brought it to their attention more than once, a pay raise did not go into effect for me until the employer got good and ready to make the change. I would be in their face until they do it, and like others have said, make certain they make it retroactive. My raise was not tied to a concrete event, so I could not really force the issue. I am quite certain that they would have delayed it out of existence, had I allowed that. That kind of employer. The kind that turns a positive event into something negative.

Aren't you still in school? When did you pass the NCLEX-RN? I don't remember your taking it!

Thanks everyone. I got the call from HR today with an update that my status changed along with the pay increase. I'm so grateful to God. I really needed the increase.

nclex lpn was ten times harder imo. i remember taking my lpn boards like yesterday. i had a ton of drugs and disease processes i never heard of! nclex rn was so much easier, still hard but less then lpn. for some reason infection control and delegation was common sense.

besides i was already familiar with alot of meds, procedures and critical thinking from working as a lpn, i applied my experience and it worked for me so far as answering the questions.

i had the same experience. the nclex-pn was much harder and it was longer. i had 85 questions on the pn and 75 questions on the rn.

From the minute you got a badge that said RN, you should receive RN pay. You can bet they are using you for RN coverage. You can be sure that they are holding you accountable as an RN. Make an appointment with HR TODAY and do not leave until you see the paperwork.
