How soon can you apply to a nursing program? Do you need to finish ALL pre-reqs?

Published

I was under the impression that you needed to complete all the prereqs up to A&P II, MicroBio, etc.

But then I read some posts like this:

And it sounds like folks are still in their last semester (for me, my last pre-req semester will just be A&PII) and applying already. I've searched for a few questions but haven't found any threads.

Can anyone help me out with this? I thought about taking an accelerated A&PII so that I could apply earlier, but if I can apply before getting a final grade on my last couple pre-reqs, I'd obviously like to..

Thanks in advance, it's a pain getting this all together :)

you have to find out from your school, every school is different.

That makes sense, I have 2-3 in mind (Rio Salado [if they still have open slots], Mesa Community College, and Chandler-Gilbert CC), I guess I'll buzz them up on Monday when they're open again :)

This is a question that is unique to each institution that you are considering. More and more these days, you have to have all the prerequisites completed before applying. They especially like to see your grade in physiology, as it is sometimes the course that separates the nursing students from the non nursing students so to speak. You need to contact each program you are considering and find out what their particular rules are. If you find a program that allows one to apply prior to completing prereqs, then go ahead and apply. It won't hurt. And you just might find yourself accepted. Good luck.

Each college nursing department makes the determination as to what prerequisites they require to be completed before you can apply for their nursing program, or take any nursing classes in their program. Contact the individual school(s) you are applying to for this specific information. This information may be listed in their college catalog. You are not going to get your answer here on this forum.

Of the 3 schools I'm applying to, 2 want all prereqs completed and they're ADN programs. For the BSN I just have to have 50% done. Weird.

HI!!! Just speaking for myself....I am finishing up my pre reqs because I feel once I get into the nursing program I will only have time to concentrate on the NURSING...not be bother with the other classes ie...English,Bio,A & P,and all the others...I have had a lot of nursing students tell me that THIS is the best route...because once you get in THAT'S really when the WORK begins!!! Having the pre- reqs done is not a requirement at my school but IT does give you POINTS that will help you get into the program ;)

every school is different check with your school, also be sure to check often they change frenquently as well.

My school you have to have all pre reqs finished and on your transcript which means if you were to finish spring 08 you couldn't actually apply to the program until fall 08 for a spring 09 start.

at my school, both I applied to in fact not only did you have to have all prerequisites completed, you had to have an official sealed transcript. it's all a very lengthy process but worth it. best wishes.
