How did you prepare for your Nclex -Rn

Hi all

I am now in my last semester of nursing school and I looking into Nclex prep classes such as Helen Feuer or Kaplan... I was wondering if any one has any particular suggestions ....books,etc.

I took the Kaplan course (my school paid for us to take it, so I figured I might as well go) and used the Saunders NCLEX-RN prep book. The Saunders book was incredibly helpful, it goes through every single section of content you'll ever need to know, with practice questions at the end of every chapter, and a full comprehensive exam at the end that you can take. I felt like I really needed to brush up on all of the basic content that had gotten lost in my brain after 4 years of school, and I think the Saunders book helped immensely.

The Kaplan course focuses on strategies for reading and answering questions, not content. It was somewhat helpful, but their practice questions are SO MUCH HARDER than real NCLEX questions! They also stress to you that if you're not getting at least 65% on their practice tests, you probably won't pass, which turned out to not be the case! I was consistently getting in the 50% range and passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. Hope that helps answer some of your questions!

Thank you so much for your response

Hey,

I admire your proactive approach to studying for the NCLEX exam.

I am using the exact same methods as Lily is. I haven't read any chapters in the Saunders Comprehensive exam (I don't recommend for you to do what I'm doing), but I have done tons of questions on the CD. As far as Kaplan, I didn't attend the class b/c of time constraints, but I have been doing the Q-bank and question trainers.

Don't ask me if it worked b/c I haven't taken the exam yet, but as I keep doing these practice questions, I'm becoming more and more confident. I'm waiting for my ATT and I'll post back when I pass.

Congratulations on making it to your last semester--pinning will be so special.

Thank you so much for the encouragement right now I am using Mosby's ncleck flash cards and using my medsurg textbook Cd I am just so nervous thinking I am not going to be able to remember everything I have learn from the beginning of nursing career. I can't wait for Pinning ......

Good luck with your exam you will do great.

Hi,

I would definately recommend taking a Kaplan review course. Their questions are very similar to the NCLEX questions. I found it very helpful and I don't think I would have done as well as I did on the exam if I had not taking their review course.

I also prepared by just doing questions after questions.

Well I wish the best of luck:)

Thank You

take the test within 30 days of finishing school- if at all possible statistically students do the best like that. Block out a reasonable amount of time 5-6 days a week- abut 2-3 hours each day to do lots of questions- I found saunders to be very helpful. Only review thethings that you clearly don't know/remember- I only studied lab values, and went through answers explained- I passed with 75 questions. Also make sure that you practice relaxation techniques so that you can psyche yourself up when you sit in front of that screen and just answer the questions. You will probably leave thinking that you failed- Everyone that I know did- and they all passed- Good Luck and let us know what happens!:loveya:

Princeton Review & Kaplan Online Review

I utilized the Princeton Review as my review guide... alot of fill-in-the-blank type questions and short synopsis of systems... AND did the Kaplan Online Course. I did the Kaplan pre-test and then started on the online video lectures (did about 20 hrs worth).. then took another 2 exams without score improvement, so I stopped watching the online videos and focused solely on doing the questions in the rest of the 7 Kaplan exams and the Q-Bank.... After working on the Q-Bank (1200 or so questions in total available) I noticed my exam scores improve to the suggested 'passing' range... passed NCLEX first time!
