Personally, I think nurses are grossly underpaid. I am 10 years in and I think I should be earning a bare minimum of $150k/yr. I hear what my friends/relatives are making, who have degrees in business, human resources, communications, marketing, PR, etc. (I'm in NYC) and they make so much more than me. Additionally, they have cushy schedules which allow them a better work/life balance, and they generally talk favorably about their jobs and report manageable stress levels at work.
Are you satisfied with your pay? What do you think nurses are "worth" (in regards to salary)?
So im reading some of these answers and some people are saying 150,000$? ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND? Are you out of your mind? If some of you think nurses should make that much, then how much should doctors make? 1 million? Sure, nurses do a lot for their patients, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Nurses are just an extra set of eyes. I think that much pay is overkill for just being a registered nurse.
Lol. "just a registered nurse"? You are clearly not a nurse & have no idea what we go through or put up with. Please don't become one.
Iv starts are so easy medics do them all day every day, heck even lvn can do em in some states. The ego on here is insane. Emts and ma's along with phlebotomists and bio-trained janitors and countless other techs have absorbed nursings whole scope. The ego and entitlement from you says it all.
Well I don't see doctors dealing with the patients/family all day or actually doing physical work. Unless you are a nurse, which I can tell you're not (maybe just a troll), you have no idea how exhausting & back breaking nursing is. Doctors get paid handsomely, nurses on the other hand... ha! It is not ego or entitlement, it is expecting what we deserve for the hard work we do. If you think it is so easy, why aren't you a nurse?
Are you & Dreamer111 the same person? If not, I'm amazed at how much free time you both have to be so trolly.
Excellent observations. The system of incentives is different for the medical profession. One indigent drug addict or one gang-banger with multiple gun shot wounds brought into the ER can cost a small fortune to treat. They won't be paying those bills. So what to do? Leave them to die? Ask their family and friends to pay their bills for their bad behavior? Who should be responsible for those who are not responsible?
***(This is in reply to one of the comments that the business sector doesnt make money, or they work 80 hours for it ... fogot to use quote feature!)
That simply is not true . . . I used to make "100,000 per year in the "business" sector, about 20 years ago. Had to take an extended leave for health reasons for many years. Decided to become a nurse when returning to work because I felt inspired to give in return what I had received, bless someone elses life!! I have given that gift and am blessed...BUT!! healthcare is a shameless moneymaking business that is building its wealth on the backs of nurses!!! I love my patients but will eventually have to return to making some money and having time for a life. HERES TO ALL THE NURSES THAT ARE REAL HEROES...
Whining whining whining so much entitlement, medics have a wider scope of practice and actually save lives, if I had a dollar for every nurse that couldn't or should t have even made it through a bls class I'd have more than a few hundred dollars. Some of you people are insane. Oh poor me, nursing school was hard, the books were so heavy in my back pack, my pt is being rude to me. Grow up and act like a medical professional. Stop standing around on tinder while tech's and assistants do your jobs, so many of you will be sol when ma's get to start lines and they start using medics in er's more. Hey you didn't want to clean rooms, someone else does it now, you didn't want to do phleb, someone else does it now, you wanted to just stand around and start ivs...ok we'll see how much longer admin will keep paying you 80k a year...dillusional
Tell me again how to block posters? I'm trying to avoid stabbing my eyeballs with shards of glass. Just too old to deal c trolls, I guess.
User name in upper right, dashboard, select ignore list from dropdown menu, enter username of poster you don't want to see, done.
Am I the only one who thinks two certain usernames might, perchance, belong to the same person?

First of all: it's spelled "delusional."

I'm not sure who you were referring to. If it was the prior poster, it seems mostly to be based on reimbursements and potentially using that as an argument for higher pay.
