How much do YOU think nurses are worth?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Personally, I think nurses are grossly underpaid. I am 10 years in and I think I should be earning a bare minimum of $150k/yr. I hear what my friends/relatives are making, who have degrees in business, human resources, communications, marketing, PR, etc. (I'm in NYC) and they make so much more than me. Additionally, they have cushy schedules which allow them a better work/life balance, and they generally talk favorably about their jobs and report manageable stress levels at work.

Are you satisfied with your pay? What do you think nurses are "worth" (in regards to salary)?

Whining whining whining so much entitlement, medics have a wider scope of practice and actually save lives, if I had a dollar for every nurse that couldn't or should t have even made it through a bls class I'd have more than a few hundred dollars. Some of you people are insane. Oh poor me, nursing school was hard, the books were so heavy in my back pack, my pt is being rude to me. Grow up and act like a medical professional. Stop standing around on tinder while tech's and assistants do your jobs, so many of you will be sol when ma's get to start lines and they start using medics in er's more. Hey you didn't want to clean rooms, someone else does it now, you didn't want to do phleb, someone else does it now, you wanted to just stand around and start ivs...ok we'll see how much longer admin will keep paying you 80k a year...dillusional

LOL í ½í¸‚ I understand what you're saying but I believe some get offended because they don't fit into the category you are describing. It is a bit much to believe that every nurse is like the ones that you have seen and that they all defer their jobs to other medical professionals, don't you think? However I understand the frustration and I do believe that the price stated by OP, if you are not a specialty nurse, may be a bit much... but it's all subjective.

Exactly. The grammar trolls on here are just mad because they're not being worshiped as gods. As I said in my op specialty nurses are different. All this whining and moaning and poor me stuff though is totally proving my points. And medics do have a wider scope. So whatever bsns are pretending they're nps can ******off. This thread has been trolled by entitled and disgruntled veterans who are more likely upset at new students starting off at twice their start wage.... me I'm just a lowly medic/ma trucking through nursing school, whos pretty much only dated medical personnel for the last decade while working medicine and ems and who has three nurses in the family....any more poor me's out there want to whine about how they deserve surgeons wages... ps I do not have multiple accounts. Although you're being so pathetically wrong and full of yourself might lead you to believe that...

EMTs are under the medical model of care, not nursing. But please continue with your incoherent ramblings (of an idiot).

I'd reply to your second post but it as just as unintelligent as this one. Sounds like you're talking with your head where the sun don't shine. I think it's funny because you're making yourself look stupid.

ETA: In one of your previous posts you said "even LVNs can do 'em" (referring to IVs). Last I checked the 'N' at the end of LVN stood for nurse. Lemme check, wait ... yep, still does. Redundant much?

Am I the only one who thinks two certain usernames might, perchance, belong to the same person?

I thought about that. It's weird that they both post in the same style & like each other's posts. Either it's the same person or 2 people have way too much time in their hands.

Can we keep the thread at least vaguely professional?

I think that went out the window as soon as those trolls showed up, unfortunately.

I think the maximum amount of money a nurse should make is $100,000, and thats after several years of experience. Considering how easy it is to become a nurse and the limited amount of time it takes, I think this is a fair amount. If a nurse wants to earn more then that, they can become an APRN.

get real. 10 years is not long as an RN. I have been an RN for 27 years and only make half of that. I live in CA.

Look, I have massive respect for EMTs. But EMTs do not have a wider scope of practice, nor do they require nursing judgment across many disciplines...you're spreading information that is blatantly false, which is why I felt the need to also point out your spelling mistake. I definitely don't think nurses should be paid 150k, yet at the same time many are truly underpaid--ultimately, I just want to ask you stop spreading lies. Though, I suppose that is the definition of a troll these days, isn't it?

What is so hard about becoming a nurse? If you go to a community college, you can receive your ADN in 2 years. I have been and gone through nursing school and it is not as "hard" or "impossible" as some people describe it. There was WAY MORE harder majors out there.
