How much time do I need to prepare???

Published

Hey all,

Im so happy to find a place like this, full of ppl who have experianced the whol NCLEX thing or are about to.

I`m absolutelly new at this...Im a first year student in Bulgaria,Eastern Europe (for those who haven`t heard of it) and it`s in plans to pass NCLEX once I graduate after 3-4 years. So this may seem a little early, but better early then late. :p

I would appreciate any advice on how to prepare and how much time I need. My question may seem too general...but be helpful, pls. Im so young and green hahhaha :D

Thaaaaanks in advance to all of you ;)

Most people allow themselves from one to three months to prepare.

Hmmm, but I guess Im gonna have to get an assesment for my language skills first...

I have time then,thanks a lot ;))))

It really depends on your situation, if you have the luxury to take a month off or two..take it!..most of the people I know who prepared for 2 weeks bc they had work or kids and family, found the NCLEX "difficult" ... My thing is if I spent all this time in nursing school, it's worth taking a month to study to make sure you've got everything covered and to pass the NCLEX the first try. Even though not everything is going to come out, at least you don't have yourself to blame at the end when you feel like you didn't prepare....you can say you did your best and you'll be more relaxed.

I don`t need to rush then.I was thinking of starting to prepare now,but then again-Im a first year, all I know so far is how to make proper corners on the beds :D Maybe I`ll start with improving my English for now until I gain more skills.

So, Charmbee, did you take it already? :)

i studied 3 whole months for the nclex. but then again, it was easier this time since i had the knowledge i gained from our local board exam carried over to the nclex review. (we are required to take the local board before taking the nclex)

so my advice would be start reading and understanding the topics now. you can do it like one body system a week, and once you understand it, youre gonna realize that it is not that hard. just really understand the rationalizations.

yes I did, I took it just last week...and I passed :yeah: .. I'm relieved that I passed and it feels good to not open a book everyday for a change :)

Start now! I start a nursing program March 11 & about a year and a half ago I bought the Sanders Comprehensive Review for the RN NCLEX by Silverstri & started taking the 100 question exam area content tests. I usually score between 69 to 75%. You can review your wrong answer rationals. Thing I do is I highlite & copy the rationals into a word document for each section & review. I have learned so much.

Guys...the more you write, the more I freak out lol :D

I`m still so new at this,I haven`t even made the proper research about this exam yet.I don`t know what are the best books for preparation ( I see Kaplan,Silvestri here). I`m not sure about the sequence of steps I need to go through before I actually get to the NCLEX date (Chris616 mentioned a board exam, which I`m sure I`ll need to pass too, since my country joined the EU 3 years ago and we`re still "little aliens" for the rest of the world :D )

And there`s another HUGE concern...I haven`t even seen the states yet. I`m preparing myself for a whole new world, and I haven`t even stepped a foot on american land yet.Being so thrilled about something like that may seem reckless to most of you...but I`ve been waiting for it my whole life.

So if any of you, other foreigners, wanna share some thoughts about that last emotion of mine-go ahead! :)))

And congrats,Charmbee! You`re from now on my role-model hahahhaha :D

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

I would suggest you wait until you complete your training and start the long process of application to the state board of nursing. As a foreign trained nurse the process is slightly different and can take several months which will give you the time to study for NCLEX

Yes,I know that I`m gonna have to go through som stuff until I can actually prove the american system that I`m a true nurse :D

But I think I`ll use those few months the best way if I can gain some work experience working in the ER. Just throw myself to the wolves so that I don`t get scared after that :p
