How much do you remember from A&P?

Published

Just curious how much some of the material from nursing pre-reqs comes up in day to day nursing. Would you be able to name 5 tissues found in bone if someone asked you on the spot one day?

I remember just what I need too.

Ha! If you could remember everything from A&P off of the top of your head, you would be becoming a teacher. No, I took A&p over a year ago and i could not tell you the names of all the the bones off of the top of my head, nor the sutures in the skull, etc. However, don't fret. The major stuff will be drilled into you and you will be reviewing for the rest of your journey through nursing school. Then when you go into your field of choice, you will often hear about other things that remind you. "Oh yeah, i remember that!" will become a common phrase, but don't say it out loud lol. So don't worry, it won't ever really be forgotten, it's there, hidden in the recessess of your mind. Actually once you take psych you will do a unit on human memory and will learn some pretty interesting things. So relax, learn everything you need to know to pass the class with a good grade, and you won't ever really be totally lost. If it makes you feel any better, all of my teachers, veteren nurses with years of experience, have been seen turning to face the same direction as a mannequin or patient to differentiate patient/mannequin left from right hahahaha.

What I did not remember I had to restudy during pathophysiology. However, I think that is the only way it could have been -- once all of the dry facts of A & P had relevance to what I would be doing I had no problem with recall.

Yep, I agree with the others. You build upon what you learn. I even found that some of my classes were just regurgitation of classes I had before. So, that drilled info into my head even more. I don't think I remember everything...but at least I know where to look it up quickly!

I'm in Pre-Nursing right now. Starting NS in Sept.:yeah: and A&P is like a new religion! lol :lol2: No seriously! I loooove it, can't get enough! :redbeathe :redpinkhe :heartbeat

I'll probably be reviewing everything we did this semester in A&P over the summer, so it's nice and fresh come Sept.

I have a related question tought: How much of the actual Biology:yawn: do you need/use in eveday nursing? You know the membranes, cell organels, ATP, phospholipid bilayers, eukaryotes/prokaryotes, DNA/RNA, punnet squares and all that stuff that gave the biggest headaches last semester... grhhhh... But A&P I LOOOOOOVEEEEE!!!:redpinkhe It's more usefull thatn the basic biology, right?!? (I hope!)

Ha ha! I have never heard anyone as happy about A & P...good for you. Loving it will help a lot. Secretly I love it all too. Also, I did review cardiovascular, respiratory and a few odds and ends. It definitely gave me an advantage. You might find that purchasing your pathophsys book earlier and reviewing that way over the summer works even better for you and is more interesting.

Thanks! :) Hmm, maybe I will get some books ahead of time... *scratching head*

I think I'm the most exited one to go into nursing :D(out of my class for some reason:rolleyes:), I'm the one who talks about it the most, can't wait to get my stethoscope:lol2:. It helps that I was the 2 person in my class to get the acceptance letter :yeah:, I don't have to wait for weeks, I got accepted 3 days after I wrote the admissions exam! I was so excited, and now I'm more exited than ever! Most of my friends are still waiting, some got rejected:crying2:... *sight* I want them all there with me!

I think a general knowledge of how these things work is meant to help you better understand the disease process compared to the way your healthy body acts. It would also come in handy if a patient wants a detailed understanding of what is going on inside their body, but I have asked several seasoned nurses if they remember the nitty gritty details and they stare at me blankly lol. Conrats and i hope your enthusiasm passes on into your nursing!
